Broad access

Why this level

  • The phone and the cloud channel let you give tasks to agents that edit files and run commands on your computer
  • The local token and device keys grant remote access to bots, and a lost device must be revoked at once
  • The service hooks into the Claude Code status line and sees usage limit data

Install

Manual install

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/leepokai/Codync/main/packaging/install.sh | sh

Installs the app on a Mac and the service on Linux, plus the app when a display is present. Add `sh -s -- --host-only` for servers.

What it does

Codync runs a background service, `codync-host`, on your computer. It connects to agents you already installed over the Agent Client Protocol: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot, OpenCode and about forty more from the protocol registry. Each agent becomes a bot with its own project folder and its own approvals. You message bots from the iPhone, macOS, Windows or Linux apps or from a terminal. Bots run on the subscriptions an agent is already signed in with on your computer. Codync never calls a provider's API with your login. Several bots can join a group chat and answer in turn, with `@name` choosing who replies. A built-in `team` MCP server lets one bot discover the others and ask them for help, such as a review. Scripts and terminals use `codync-host send --bot <name> --wait --json "text"`, `codync-host tui` and `codync-host status`. A notification arrives when a bot finishes or waits for approval. Data lives in `~/.codync`, and remote devices connect with individual keys over an encrypted channel.

Who it is for. For people who run Claude Code or Codex at home or on a server and want to assign tasks and approve edits from a phone.

Good fit when

  • The agent runs on a Mac at home, you are away and want to send it a task from an iPhone
  • You need several agents with different projects and permissions in one place, with a group chat and replies by `@name`
  • A script or CI job must hand a task to a bot and wait for a machine-readable reply with `codync-host send --wait --json`
  • An agent stopped on a permission prompt and you want a notification and a quick answer

Not a fit when

  • You need one agent in one terminal: a background service and apps would be extra
  • The agent and its subscription login are not set up yet: Codync does not arrange them
  • You do not want to open your computer to a phone: each remote device gets rights through keys and approval
  • You want an IDE replacement: Codync chats with agents while the agent itself edits code

Example request

Send the reviewer bot a task: review the current diff without modifying files, and return the reply as JSON

Limitations

The Claude Code, Codex and Pi adapters need Node.js because `npx` fetches them. When no direct channel to the computer is available, the phone reaches it through Cloudflare. The iPhone app goes through App Review, so its App Store version can trail the desktop one. The macOS and Linux installer runs as a one-line `curl` command, so read the script before running it. The license is Apache 2.0. Bots reply only while the computer is on and the `codync-host` service is running.

How to disable. Stop and remove the service with `codync-host uninstall`, then remove the app, for example `brew uninstall --cask codync` on a Mac. The `uninstall` command restores the Claude Code status line to what it was.

FAQ

How do I install Codync on a Mac?

Run `brew install --cask leepokai/codync/codync` or the `curl` install line from the project page. On a Mac this installs the app with the service inside. For servers and headless Macs add `--host-only` to the installer and start the service with `codync-host install`.

Which agents work through Codync?

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Grok Build, Hermes Agent and about forty others from the Agent Client Protocol registry. Codync finds installed agents itself and fetches the rest on first use.

Does Codync pay for model requests?

No. The project is free with no paid tier. Bots run on the subscriptions and keys agents are already signed in with on your computer, and the agent's provider charges for usage.

How do I send a task to a bot from a script?

Run `codync-host send --bot <name or id> --wait --json "text"`. With `--wait` it waits for the final reply and prints one JSON object with `status`, `reply` and `notices`. The default wait is 1800 seconds, and time spent on pending approvals does not count.

How does the phone talk to the computer?

Over an encrypted channel, direct or through Cloudflare, with an individual device key. Pairing starts with `codync-host pair`, which prints a QR code or a link, and a lost device is revoked with `codync-host devices`.

README in short

Codync combines a local Rust service, apps for iPhone and desktop systems and a CLI that turn agents on your computer into persistent bots. The project is free and open source and offers an alternative to Grok Bot on your own subscriptions.
