What it does

Harvey is an autonomous sales agent in Python. It finds suitable companies, studies their sites, writes an email with a specific detail, sends the campaign, reads replies and steers the conversation toward a meeting. The loop wakes every 15 minutes by default and decides what to do: replies, sending, writing a campaign or prospecting. Models are called through your subscription: `claude` from Claude Code or the Codex CLI, with no API key. Commands such as `harvey train`, `harvey discover`, `harvey outbox` and `harvey run` take you from training on a product site to the loop, while a dashboard at `localhost:5555` shows the email queue and conversations.

Who it is for. Small-business owners and sales engineers who want to automate cold outreach on their own machine and review every email.

Good fit when

  • Local companies need to be found and described for a product, with emails prepared.
  • Each email should be read and approved with keys in the Outbox panel.
  • Customer replies are sorted into interest, objection and contract requests.
  • Sending is limited to office hours in the recipient's time zone.

Not a fit when

  • There is no dedicated domain or warmed mailbox, so mail from the main domain will land in spam.
  • Recipients are in places where cold email requires prior consent.
  • You want mass outreach with no manual review.

Example request

Train on my company site, find ten suitable clinics in one city and prepare emails without sending any until I approve.

Limitations

Python 3.11 or newer, a Claude Pro or Max subscription (or ChatGPT with Codex) and a mailbox on a dedicated warmed-up domain are required. Model use consumes subscription limits and you must check the provider's terms yourself. Autopilot mode sends emails without approval. Violations of mailing laws (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CASL) remain the sender's responsibility. LinkedIn automation breaks that service's terms and is off by default. Campaign data, contacts and correspondence are stored locally, and the dashboard listens only on `127.0.0.1:5555`. On a remote server reach it through an SSH tunnel rather than exposing the port.

How to disable. Stop the loop with `harvey sending pause` and end `harvey run`. Delete the clone, the `.venv` environment and local data including `.env` and `harvey.local.yaml`.

FAQ

Does Harvey send emails without permission?

No. By default every email waits for your approval. Autopilot is switched on separately in settings or with `require_approval: false`.

Is a model API key required?

No. The model is called through a subscription: Claude Code (`claude login`) or the Codex CLI signed in with ChatGPT.

How do I stop sending?

The `harvey sending pause` command is a kill switch that stops everything mid-flight.

What does Harvey say if asked whether it is an AI?

Its instructions make it answer truthfully. Disclosing automation is required in some jurisdictions.

What is the license?

MIT.

README in short

Each cold email passes a deterministic pre-send gate, and replies and text from websites are treated as data. In autopilot mode, emails with foreign links return for review.
