How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
IRedis provides an interactive Redis session with highlighting, completion and argument validation. Results can be paged or piped to shell tools. Its peek command detects key type and chooses an appropriate read operation. Named connections and cluster redirection support repeated work. All operations retain the connected account’s permissions.
Who it is for. Redis service engineers inspecting keys and reviewing commands interactively.
Good fit when
- An unfamiliar key needs type-aware inspection.
- A complex command needs argument hints and validation.
- A JSON response should be piped to a local formatter.
- Several servers need recognizable saved connection names.
Not a fit when
- You need a Redis server or permanent monitoring service.
- Production safety would rely only on interface warnings.
- You need the current version as a single binary without Python.
Example request
Prepare read-only IRedis access to the test server and inspect this key’s type and size.Limitations
Current releases support Python 3.10–3.14; check the interpreter version before installing. Completion and safeguards for selected dangerous commands do not replace restricted Redis ACLs. Saved DSNs may contain passwords, so protect configuration and keep it out of chat. Output pipelines invoke ordinary shell commands; separately review which local processes will receive the data and which actions they will execute.
How to disable. Exit with Ctrl-D and uninstall through the chosen method. Review saved credentials and profiles separately.
FAQ
How do I inspect an unknown key type?
Use `peek`; it selects a read operation and reports size and memory details.
How do I exit?
Ctrl-D closes the session; Ctrl-C cancels the current input.
Can I name a saved server?
Yes. Configure a DSN in `.iredisrc` and use `-d`, keeping credentials private.
How is MOVED handled?
Cluster mode reissues the command to the indicated node; verify node reachability.
Is command help available?
Yes. Try `HELP SET`; the hint bar also shows syntax and complexity.
Is a current release available without Python?
No. Standalone binary builds stopped after 1.15.2. Prepare a supported Python version for current IRedis releases.
