Broad access

Why this level

  • Any participant with steering rights makes the agent run commands on your machine as you
  • The cloudflare mode opens the server to anyone with the link, and the sign-in link works as the owner's key
  • The built-in browser and schedules let the agent reach the network and work while you are not watching

Install

Manual install

git clone https://github.com/TannerMidd/pi-pocket.git && cd pi-pocket && npm install && npm start

Needs Node.js 22.19 or newer and a provider sign-in through Pi (`pi`, then /login). The launcher prints an address, a sign-in link and a QR code.

Access and checks

How we review

Broad accessThe tool can change data, run commands or handle secrets.

What it does

Pi Pocket runs a web interface for the Pi coding agent on your own machine and makes it comfortable to use from a phone. The `npm start` command brings up the server and prints an address, a sign-in link and a QR code. Every model call, tool call and subagent is stored as it happens in the pocket.sqlite database, so after a server restart the agent carries on with the task, and a cut-off call reruns only when that is safe. You can invite teammates into a session: they get presence, a side chat the agent does not see, mentions, pins and shared notes. Access comes through roles, either steering or view-only, and spending limits are set per person and per session. The PiP assistant opens with Alt+A over any screen and lists, starts and messages your other sessions, while watchers follow a GitHub repository, for example a failing CI on main. The app also has tiles for files and a diff of uncommitted changes, a built-in Chromium for pages, scheduled messages to the agent, a plan mode where nothing changes until approved, session forks with their own git worktree and an extension gallery. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and Android through Termux.

Who it is for. For developers who work with the Pi agent and want to follow long tasks from a phone or run one session together with a team.

Good fit when

  • The Pi agent works on a task for a long time and you want to follow progress, approve calls and answer questions from a phone
  • You have to restart the server mid-run and cannot lose the work
  • A teammate needs to watch a session or steer the agent without getting your whole machine
  • You want a schedule like a CI summary every weekday at 8:00, or the /until npm test command that keeps the agent going until the check passes
  • You want to view and click through your dev server's page in a Chromium on the server, from a phone too

Not a fit when

  • You work with Claude Code, Cursor or Codex: the app is built around the Pi agent and its runtime
  • Nobody but you may run commands on the machine: for anyone with steering rights, the agent runs commands as you
  • You do not have Node.js 22.19 or newer and do not want to install it
  • You need a cloud service with support and guarantees: the author ships this as standalone open-source software

Example request

/schedule every weekday 8:00 summarize CI

Limitations

It requires Node.js 22.19 or newer and a prior provider sign-in through Pi (`pi`, then /login). Linux is the most tested. The sign-in link works as the owner's key, so do not forward it, and `--rotate-token` revokes the old one. Anyone with steering rights can make the agent run commands on the machine as you and reach Pi Pocket's own files, settings and tokens. A single-session invite limits what is visible in the app, while the resources the agent can reach stay the same. The Lancet Guard protection is off by default and needs ONNX Runtime, which may fail to load on Android. The cloudflare mode makes the address open to anyone who has the link.

How to disable. Press q in the launcher to stop the server and delete the pi-pocket folder. Data lives in `~/.pi-pocket`: delete it to remove the database, settings and push keys.

FAQ

How do I start Pi Pocket?

You need Node.js 22.19 or newer and Pi already signed in to a provider. Clone the repository, run `npm install` and `npm start`. The launcher asks how devices should connect and prints an address, a sign-in link and a QR code. Open the link once per browser: the cookie lasts a year.

What remote access modes are there?

Four: local listens on 127.0.0.1 only, lan opens the local network over plain http, cloudflare gives a free https tunnel with no account, and tailscale is reachable only inside your tailnet. For another tunnel such as ngrok, pick local and point the tunnel at port 8787.

Does Pi Pocket work on a phone?

Yes, in two ways. The interface opens in a phone browser and can be added to the home screen. The server itself can also run on Android through Termux: install nodejs and git, then Pi, and clone the project.

What is Lancet Guard?

An extension that is off by default. If you turn it on in Menu, Extensions and install the specpi-lancet-guard package, dangerous bash, write and edit calls wait for approval from someone in the session. If the guard is on but fails to load, Pi Pocket blocks those calls.

How do I set a spending limit per person?

Spending limits are set separately for each invitee and each session together with a role: steer the agent or view only. Roles and access are granted through one-time links and QR codes, and the list of people lives in Menu, People.

README in short

The README opens with a screenshot of the app on a desktop and a phone and a four-command quick start. It continues with a feature list, a table of remote access modes with a warning about steering rights, an Android guide through Termux and a Nix and NixOS section with a service module. It ends with a table of launch options, environment variables and a map of the project's directories.
