Extended access
Why this level
- The CLI runs local analyzers, and formatting or fixes can change project files.
Install
Manual install
curl https://qlty.sh | bashFirst macOS/Linux installer; review the script before execution.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The CLI runs local analyzers, and formatting or fixes can change project files.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Qlty CLI runs multi-language checks through one interface. Projects combine linters, formatting and security checks in a versioned configuration initialized from detected technologies. Separate commands report duplication and complexity or reformat files. An agent can review findings and propose a bounded change. Hosted reviews and quality history belong to the separate Qlty Cloud service.
Who it is for. Polyglot repository teams standardizing how code-quality checks run and are configured.
Good fit when
- A repository has several languages and fragmented checking scripts.
- Refactoring needs duplication and complexity findings.
- New changes need a unified linter report.
- Multiple project areas need formatting under shared rules.
Not a fit when
- A clean static report must prove the absence of vulnerabilities.
- Whole-project formatting would run without approval.
- You expect hosted team history without configuring its separate service.
Example request
Initialize Qlty for this repository and show five sample findings. Do not run formatting yet.Limitations
Coverage depends on enabled plugins and settings, so review generated configuration after initialization. Linters run natively without Docker isolation and access project files. Formatting and automatic fixes modify the working tree and need separate diff review. The code is available under BSL-1.1 as Fair Source, with a delayed transition to an open-source license; review its redistribution terms.
How to disable. Remove Qlty from hooks and CI while retaining any needed direct checks, then uninstall the CLI and unused configuration.
FAQ
Where is configuration stored?
After `qlty init`, settings are stored in `.qlty/qlty.toml`. Include the file in project review so the team can agree on enabled checks.
How do I preview findings?
Run `qlty check --sample=5` for five sample findings. Use them to inspect the initial setup before reviewing the full report.
Do linters require Docker?
No. They run natively; a container image is a separate distribution option.
How do I enable another tool?
Run `qlty plugins enable <NAME>` with the plugin name. Its settings are added to the project configuration.
Which command reports duplication?
Run `qlty smells --all`. The report identifies code to examine before refactoring; the team plans the changes separately.

README in short
Separate integrations support GitHub Actions and VS Code. Local check results and Qlty Cloud’s hosted history are different ways of working with the project.
