sentrux
A Rust code-quality sensor that scores a project before and after an agent session, installable as a Claude Code plugin or MCP server
Medium risk
We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.
Why this level
- Scans and indexes the entire project source code
- In MCP mode runs as a process with access to the project's file system
Install
Manual install
brew install sentrux/tap/sentruxInstall on macOS
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
sentrux scans a project and computes a numeric quality signal and architectural structure for 52 languages via tree-sitter plugins, showing a live treemap in its own GUI. The check command runs rule checks for CI, gate --save stores a baseline signal before an agent session, and gate compares it afterward to show whether it improved or degraded. Architectural constraints (layers, boundaries, coupling, cyclomatic complexity, no god files) are described in .sentrux/rules.toml. It separately ships 9 MCP tools (scan, health, session_start, session_end, rescan, check_rules, evolution, dsm, test_gaps) and a Claude Code plugin.
Who it is for. For developers and teams who let an agent modify code and want an objective signal on whether quality improved or degraded during the session.
Good fit when
- You want to save a quality baseline before an agent session and compare it after
- You want CI to fail when the project's architectural rules are broken
- You want the agent to check its own edits via MCP tools during the session
Not a fit when
- The project uses a language without an existing or custom tree-sitter plugin
- You need a one-off linter, not a continuous structural sensor
Example request
Save the current quality signal before you edit the code, then compare it afterward to see if it got worseLimitations
It is a standalone Rust binary with no external dependencies, but rules and layer boundaries need to be written for your specific project in .sentrux/rules.toml. The GUI needs a GPU backend; on Linux, Vulkan or OpenGL can be forced via the WGPU_BACKEND variable if it fails to start. MCP mode is one connection option, not a separate hosted service.
How to disable. In Claude Code run /plugin uninstall sentrux, remove the sentrux server entry from the MCP client configuration, and uninstall the binary via brew uninstall sentrux or manually.
Security check
- Scans and indexes the entire project source code
- In MCP mode runs as a process with access to the project's file system
README in short
The README presents sentrux as a real-time sensor that closes the agent's feedback loop: it scans a project, computes a quality signal, shows a treemap, supports 52 languages via tree-sitter, offers CLI commands for CI and before-and-after session comparison, a TOML rules engine for architectural constraints, and a 9-tool MCP server plus a Claude Code plugin. MIT licensed.
FAQ
How does sentrux detect quality degradation?
session_start saves a baseline quality signal, and session_end recalculates it after the agent's edits and reports whether it rose or fell.
Can you add a language that is not on the list?
Yes, sentrux plugin init scaffolds a custom tree-sitter plugin for an unsupported language.
