Broad access
Why this level
- Every pane runs a shell with your permissions, and an agent with the admin or fan grant can start other processes and helpers through TUIOS
- Writes hooks into agent settings, can optionally answer permission requests for you, and with ssh access enabled it opens sessions on other machines
- Sessions live in a background daemon along with pane contents and typed text, and terminals often show secrets
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add cli/tuiosDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
TUIOS is a window manager inside the terminal: several shell panes, 9 workspaces, BSP tiling, a command palette and vim-style modal control. A background daemon holds the sessions, so they outlive closing the terminal window and restarting the daemon, and tuios new, tuios attach and tuios ls create, reattach and list them. For agents, tuios integration install claude-code (or codex, gemini-cli, opencode and others, or the --all flag) writes hooks into the agent's settings, and every pane running an agent gets a state: working, waiting for you, idle, done, errored. Without hooks TUIOS identifies the agent by process, screen and title. Everything waiting for your answer in any session on any machine is gathered in the Inbox: permission requests, questions, mail between agents, errors and conversations that can be resumed. You can answer right there without switching to the pane. The tuios fan command starts one prompt in several agents at once, each in its own git worktree, and tuios start-agent brings up a single helper beside you. The tuios mcp command serves the same surface as MCP tools, and tuios tmux-shim substitutes TUIOS panes for tmux in programs that drive tmux, such as Claude Code agent teams.
Who it is for. For developers who keep several agents (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and others) open on their own machine or on remote servers and want to see their state and answer requests from one place.
Good fit when
- Three or four agents work at once and you need to see at a glance which one is waiting for permission or an answer
- A session on a server has to survive an ssh drop: the daemon holds it and tuios attach brings you back
- One prompt has to run through several agents, each in its own git worktree, with tuios fan
- You use Claude Code agent teams, which open panes through tmux, and want them to appear as TUIOS panes
- You need to answer an agent's permission request from the shared list without switching to its pane
Not a fit when
- Your terminal lacks true color support: the project lists it as a requirement, while Kitty or sixel graphics only matter for images
- You want only a tmux-compatible session manager without its own window manager and a new set of key bindings: TUIOS has its own modal interface with a Ctrl+B prefix
- You just want to run agents in separate tmux sessions and git worktrees: Claude Squad does that
- You need a stable release with guarantees: the security policy says there is no stable release yet and fixes go only into the latest commit
Example request
Install TUIOS, connect Claude Code to it with tuios integration install and show me how to open the list of pending agent requestsLimitations
- Requires a terminal with true color support. The author recommends Kitty graphics and sixel in Ghostty, Kitty or WezTerm, and sixel support is experimental.
- Building from source needs Go 1.26.6 or newer. Prebuilt binaries are published for Linux, macOS, Windows, FreeBSD and OpenBSD, with a checksums.txt in the releases.
- The author maintains the project in personal free time: there are no response deadlines, and security fixes go only to the latest commit of the main branch.
- The author did not test hooks and plugins with every agent: Claude Code, Cursor Agent and GitHub Copilot CLI have end-to-end hook tests, while Command Code, Muse Code and Prime Agent are covered only with a stand-in, not the real agent.
- Answering permission requests from the Inbox is enabled separately in config.toml and is documented for Claude Code, opencode, Kilo and Qwen Code. In OpenCode V2 the Inbox shows only the tool calls it knows how to check, and other approvals stay in OpenCode itself.
How to disable. The tuios integration uninstall claude-code command removes exactly the entries TUIOS added to the agent's settings, and the file as it was before the first change sits next to it with a .tuios.bak extension. If you want only the multiplexer, set enabled = false in the [agents] section of config.toml. tuios kill-session with the session name ends a session.
FAQ
How do I open the shared list of agent requests in TUIOS?
Press the prefix Ctrl+B and then i: the Inbox opens with everything waiting for you in every session on every machine. Ctrl+B and then o jumps to the oldest item. You answer a prompt with a digit, and a permission request with keys 1, 2 or 3 from the list itself.
What does TUIOS change in Claude Code settings?
The tuios integration install claude-code command adds one managed hook entry per event to ~/.claude/settings.json, or to the file in the CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR directory. Your own hooks stay in place, the file is replaced atomically, and the previous copy is kept as settings.json.tuios.bak.
How does the TUIOS MCP server differ from the skill?
The tuios --skill command prints a short guide an agent in a pane uses to drive TUIOS, and tuios --skill with a topic name prints the rest, recipes included. The tuios mcp command serves the same surface as MCP tools, read-only by default and held to the agent's own session.
How do I limit what an agent can do through TUIOS?
A pane's rights are set with the grants read, write, fan, respond and admin. In config.toml the [agents.permissions] section with strict mode and a grants list starts every pane with fewer rights, and the --grants flag on fan, start-agent and new-window gives a helper even less.
How do I run an agent on another machine?
First add the machine with tuios hosts add, giving a name and an address: the daemon keeps an ssh link to it. Then tuios fan --host build or tuios start-agent -s build:api start agents there, their items show up in your Inbox, and tuios worktree pull brings their work back.

README in short
The repository's main page opens with a project overview and documentation links, then covers installation through Homebrew, AUR, Nix, go install and Docker, a detailed feature list by section, a table of the main keys and command examples for sessions and layouts. The docs folder holds separate guides to agents, sessions, hooks, themes, the daemon control protocol and the tmux shim. The build ships Go tests and Playwright tests for the web client, and each release has its own notes.
