Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
Unity Gateway installs the `ug` command, which configures coding agents to work through Databricks AI Gateway. It supports Codex, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot CLI, Pi and Google Antigravity CLI, and for Cursor Agent it registers only Databricks MCP servers. On first launch `ug` asks for a Databricks workspace, signs in and writes the local agent configuration. `ug configure` sets agents and the model source, and `ug mcp add` adds MCP servers from the Unity catalog. For Claude Code it provides server-side web search through the `web_search` MCP, and a local proxy refreshes the Databricks token during a session.
Who it is for. Databricks teams that need coding-agent calls to pass through a corporate gateway with shared authorization and accounting instead of personal keys.
Good fit when
- The company hosts models in Databricks and developers need one sign-in for Codex and Claude Code.
- An administrator distributes agent settings centrally through a managed workspace configuration.
- Agents need Databricks MCP servers such as `system.ai.github`.
- A session outlives the token lifetime and must refresh without a restart.
Not a fit when
- There is no Databricks workspace with AI Gateway configured.
- You want to connect agents to personal keys directly.
- You need a general gateway over any provider outside Databricks.
Example request
Configure Codex and Claude Code through Unity Gateway for our workspace and add the `system.ai.github` MCP server.Limitations
Python 3.12 or newer and `uv` are required, plus `npm` for automatic agent installs. By default `ug configure` writes user and machine-wide settings for Claude Code and Codex, and managed files may require `sudo`. The Python package is still called `ucode` and old `ucode` commands work. Some modes depend on agent versions; Codex smart routing needs 0.164.0. Last commit on 6 November 2026.
How to disable. Remove the tool with `uv tool uninstall unity-gateway`, then clean the agent settings it wrote in `~/.claude` and `~/.codex` and its MCP registrations.
FAQ
Which agents does ug launch?
`ug codex`, `ug claude`, `ug gemini`, `ug opencode`, `ug copilot`, `ug pi` and `ug antigravity`. Cursor Agent gets MCP only through `ug cursor`.
How do I add Databricks MCP servers?
Run `ug mcp add`. `--names` and `--location` select servers and `--agents` says which agents get them.
What about ucode commands?
They keep working. To migrate, reinstall under the new name `unity-gateway` and check `ug --version`.
Is the Databricks token written to disk?
For Antigravity the README says a local proxy adds a fresh token to each request and no token is written to disk.
What is needed to install it?
Python 3.12 or newer and `uv`. Automatic installation of the agents themselves also needs `npm`.
