Kaiten MCP with adjustable response detail
kaiten-mcp
A fork of a popular Kaiten MCP with 63 tools, adjustable response verbosity and a detailed API-quirks guide for the model
High risk
We rate an entry high when the tool writes to external systems, handles money, production databases or secrets, or runs arbitrary commands. The CLI installs it only with your consent.
Why this level
- Uploads and deletes files on cards
- Can delete cards, comments and checklists
Install
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/amico1285-kaiten-mcpDetects the agents on your machine, checks the risk and pins the version.
Other ways to install
This entry is high risk, so there is no one-click install. Review the code and add the config by hand.

What it does
The server covers 63 Kaiten operations: cards, comments, time logs, spaces and boards, subtasks, tags, checklists, files, custom fields, users, card members and blockers, external links, sprints. Every tool takes a verbosity parameter (min, normal, max, raw) controlling how much data comes back. It caches reference data with a configurable TTL, retries on 429 and network errors with exponential backoff, and uses idempotency keys for write operations. The project ships an LLM_GUIDE.md describing Kaiten's data model and non-obvious API quirks the author recommends the model read before its first call.
Who it is for. For Kaiten teams that care about fine control over response size and resilience to API hiccups.
Good fit when
- You need file uploads and tracking on a card, not just text fields
- You want to control response size per call via verbosity
- You need retries and write idempotency so failures do not create duplicates
Not a fit when
- You want a minimal server, not 63 tools with extra settings: pick a smaller one
- Your Kaiten uses OAuth login: the API only supports tokens, and the server reflects that
Example request
Find overdue Kaiten cards and show how much time is logged on themLimitations
This is a fork of iamtemazhe/mcp-kaiten with the author's fixes, not an independent build from scratch. Deleting a card with logged time first requires deleting the time logs separately. Single author, few stars.
How to disable. Remove the kaiten entry from your MCP client config.

README in short
The README frames the project as a fork of mcp-kaiten with five waves of fixes (22 new tools, schema repairs, preflight checks), gives a one-command npx quick start, an environment variable table, a tool list across 14 groups, reliability mechanisms (caching, retries, idempotency), and a section on Kaiten API quirks found in practice.
FAQ
What does the verbosity parameter do?
It is a min/normal/max/raw setting controlling response detail, from compact to the full raw API JSON.
Do I need to set a user ID?
No, the current user is resolved automatically from the token.
