What it does
Frappe Assistant Core, or FAC, installs into Frappe as an ordinary app and turns an ERPNext site into an MCP server. A client such as Claude Desktop or ChatGPT signs in through OAuth 2.0 as your ERPNext user and sees only the data you can see in the desk. Every call lands in the Assistant Audit Log. Built-in tools are spread across four plugins, from Frappe operations to visualization with dashboards. The model reads, creates, changes and deletes documents and searches by DocType. It also builds reports, lists pending approvals and runs workflow steps. The data analysis plugin executes Python and extracts files. An admin can publish Skills, which are reusable instructions for the model such as the monthly close, and Jinja prompt templates with typed arguments. Developers add tools from their own Frappe apps through a hook.
Who it is for. For ERPNext and Frappe admins and developers who want to ask an AI about invoices, customers and stock.
Good fit when
- A manager wants to ask for overdue invoices of the top five customers in Claude Desktop without opening ERPNext reports
- You need the stock of a SKU across all warehouses without building a report by hand
- A lead's status must be updated and the next action date set, with a trace in the audit log
- A team wants consistent answers on month close: an admin publishes a Skill that points the model to the right reports
- A developer adds a custom tool of their own Frappe app to the same MCP server through a hook
Not a fit when
- You have no Frappe version 15 or 16 with Python 3.10: the app requires them
- You need to connect Odoo, 1C or another ERP: the server works only with Frappe and ERPNext
- The admin is not ready to let the model write and delete documents

Limitations
Needs Frappe version 15 or 16 and Python 3.10 or newer; Node 22.12 is required only to build the FAC Chat interface. The license is AGPL-3.0, and commercial terms are in a separate COMMERCIAL.md. The model acts with the rights of the ERPNext user it signed in as, including write and delete, so restrict roles up front. The built-in FAC Chat runs on a FAC Cloud subscription and is disabled by default. The Anthropic and OpenAI APIs are unavailable from Russia.
How to disable. Disconnect the connector in the MCP client. To remove the app from the site, run bench --site your-site uninstall-app frappe_assistant_core. The Assistant Audit Log lives in the site database, so clear it separately if you no longer need it.
FAQ
How do I connect Frappe Assistant Core to Claude Desktop?
Open FAC Admin in the Desk and copy the MCP Endpoint URL. In Claude Desktop go to Settings, Connectors, Add Custom Connector, paste the address, click Connect and sign in with your ERPNext account. Then you can ask, for example, "list customers created this month".
What data will the model see?
Only what the signed-in user can see in the ERPNext interface. Sign-in runs over OAuth 2.0 as a real user, so that user's roles and permissions apply.
How do I install FAC on Frappe Cloud and on my own bench?
On Frappe Cloud open the Apps tab, find Frappe Assistant Core in the marketplace and click Install. On your own bench run `bench get-app https://github.com/buildswithpaul/Frappe_Assistant_Core` and `bench --site <your-site> install-app frappe_assistant_core`.
How is FAC Chat different from the MCP server?
The MCP server is free and works with third-party clients, and you pay for the model yourself. FAC Chat is a built-in chat in the Desk and at /copilot. It is available only with a FAC Cloud subscription and is disabled by default.
What are Skills and prompt templates?
Skills are FAC Skill documents with instructions for the model, such as how to run the monthly close. Prompt templates are starting points with user input: dropdowns, dates, checkboxes. An admin publishes both.
