What it does
Idea Reality MCP checks before a project starts whether something similar already exists: it scans GitHub, npm, PyPI, Hacker News and Stack Overflow and gives a score from 0 to 100. Launch: `uvx idea-reality-mcp`, for Claude Code `claude mcp add idea-reality -- uvx idea-reality-mcp`. Version 0.5.0 from 11.03.2026, MIT license. Since August 2026 the project is in maintenance mode and the README promises no new features. The `idea-reality setup` command asks you to accept a data collection policy and some requests go to the author's hosted API.
Who it is for. For founders and developers who want to quickly learn whether analogs exist before building a product.
Good fit when
- You need a quick novelty check of an idea
- You need an overview of ready projects on GitHub, npm and PyPI
- You need a competition estimate before starting
Not a fit when
- You need an actively developed project: it is in maintenance mode now
- You cannot send an idea description to an external API
Example request
Check the idea of a houseplant watering tracker app and show similar projects with a scoreMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
Some requests go to the author's hosted API and the setup command asks you to accept a data collection policy: do not send the description of a closed idea. The project has been in maintenance mode since August 2026. The 0 to 100 score is the author's guide and not a guarantee of novelty. Access is minimal.
How to disable. Remove the server entry from the client with claude mcp remove idea-reality.
