What it does
The dryeab MCP Telegram server controls your Telegram account over MTProto. It is built on Telethon and gives the assistant nine tools in four groups. Messaging: send_message sends text or a file to a user, group or channel, edit_message changes a sent message, delete_message removes one or several, get_messages returns history with filters. Search and navigation: search_dialogs finds users, groups and channels by name or username, and message_from_link opens a message from a Telegram link. Two more tools handle drafts: get_draft shows the current draft of a chat and set_draft creates or clears it. For files there is media_download, which saves photos, videos and documents from messages. The mcp-telegram tools command prints the full parameters.
Who it is for. For people who want a Claude Desktop or Cursor assistant to work with Telegram fully: write, search, edit and download attachments.
Good fit when

Not a fit when
- You only need an overview of conversations without write access: the sparfenyuk server has no sending at all
- The account is a work account where an accidental deletion is unacceptable: delete_message is among the tools
- You need a bot through the Bot API: this server signs in as a personal account
- Several server copies share one session: a shared session file causes database is locked errors

Limitations
You need Python 3.10 or newer, the uv tool, an API ID and API hash from my.telegram.org, a phone number in international format, the code from Telegram and the two-factor password if it is set. Sign-in data is stored in a session file.
Only one running server instance per session file is allowed, otherwise Telethon raises database is locked. The author warns that breaking Telegram's rules may restrict the account. The repository was last updated in June 2025.
Whether Telegram is reachable from Russia depends on the carrier and was not checked for this card.
How to disable. Remove the mcp-telegram block from the client configuration. mcp-telegram logout ends the current session and mcp-telegram clear-session deletes all stored session data. Remove the package with uv tool uninstall mcp-telegram.

How do I install MCP Telegram in Cursor or Claude Desktop?
Run uv tool install mcp-telegram, then mcp-telegram login and enter the API ID, API hash, phone and code. Add a block with the command mcp-telegram, the argument start and the variables API_ID and API_HASH to the client config, then restart the app.
Which tools does dryeab/mcp-telegram have?
Nine: send_message, edit_message, delete_message, get_messages, search_dialogs, message_from_link, get_draft, set_draft and media_download. The mcp-telegram tools command prints the parameters of each.
How does dryeab's mcp-telegram differ from sparfenyuk/mcp-telegram?
The dryeab server writes and searches: sending, editing, deleting, drafts and media download. The sparfenyuk server only reads dialogs and messages. Your choice depends on whether you will let the assistant write in your name.
What should I do about the database is locked error?
It appears when several mcp-telegram copies share one session file. Keep a single running instance. If a process hangs, the Troubleshooting section explains how to force-stop old processes.
How do I reset the sign-in and remove stored data in mcp-telegram?
mcp-telegram logout leaves the current session and mcp-telegram clear-session erases all stored session data. Run mcp-telegram login again to sign back in.
