Broad access
Why this level
- The agent gains remote command execution, desktop and file access; autonomous Boxes may act without individual approvals.

Manual install
claude mcp add muxin -- /path/to/muxin mcpConnect an existing Muxin installation. Replace the placeholder with the absolute binary path.

What it does
Muxin MCP connects an agent to your Mac, Linux and Windows computers through SSH. The agent reads logs, inspects machine status and operates remote sessions. The server also exposes screenshots, keyboard input and task workspace creation. A session can pass from one coding agent to another with notes about progress and repository state. Users follow it in a terminal. The desktop app, CLI and MCP share configuration and pick up changes made through the other interfaces.
Who it is for. Infrastructure engineers running agent sessions and diagnostics across their own machines.
Good fit when
- A remote service has stopped responding, and the agent inspects its logs and status.
- An application test uses desktop screenshots and input in the app window.
- Muxin closes on the laptop while the coding session continues on the server.
- Another agent takes over the current branch and notes about unfinished tasks.
Not a fit when
- The agent may read one directory but must not access the whole machine.
- Key-based SSH login cannot be configured on the target.
- Your workflow requires approval for every command run by an autonomous Boxes agent.
Example request

- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
Remote machines need working key-based SSH login; interactive password prompts are unsupported. Mac desktop access requires Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions on that machine. Host workspace commands run as the SSH user without isolation, so untrusted code needs a Docker workspace. In Boxes mode the agent runs with permission prompts disabled and uses the configured GitHub account, allowing it to push changes and open pull requests.
How to disable. Remove Muxin from the MCP client. Disable workspaces per machine in settings and stop relevant sessions separately because they survive closing the app.
FAQ
Can I test tools without a server?
Yes. Add `--demo` after `mcp` to let the agent use simulated machines.
Does a session end when Muxin closes?
No. It continues on the target machine. Return to the session list to read output or stop it.
How do I get configuration for my installation?
Run `muxin mcp --print-config` to print settings pointing at your binary.
Does closing the app stop a schedule?
No. Schedules run through the target machine’s scheduler. Pause the relevant job on the schedules page.
Can I connect a Windows machine?
Yes, through OpenSSH with key-based login. Service and GitHub Actions runner management requires an administrator account. Autonomous Boxes are not yet available on Windows.

README in short
Beyond interactive sessions, Muxin manages GitHub Actions runners and schedules on target machines. The machine’s own scheduler runs those jobs, so closing the window does not pause them.
