Why this level
- Part names and queries are sent to the third-party pcbparts.dev server.
- Mouser and DigiKey keys, if you set them, belong to your accounts.

How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
A remote MCP server gives the agent an electronic component catalog. Parametric search covers more than 630 thousand in-stock JLCPCB parts, while price and stock on Mouser and DigiKey are checked for specific part numbers. A query such as "10k 0603 1%" is parsed into structured filters automatically. Beyond search, the server finds compatible alternatives, returns pinouts from EasyEDA symbols, downloads KiCad symbols and footprints through SamacSys and recommends sensor ICs by what they measure and the protocol. Separate tools open about 300 reference boards and 41 design-rule files covering power, protection, interfaces, layout and EMC. The server has 14 tools in total.
Who it is for. Electronics developers choosing components and designing boards together with Claude Code or Cursor.
Good fit when
- You need a MOSFET with Vgs(th) below 2 V and channel resistance up to 10 mOhm among in-stock JLCPCB parts.
- A part is discontinued or sold out and a replacement has to match the specification.
- Price and stock on Mouser and DigiKey are checked before placing an assembly order.
- A new device takes a reference board schematic built around an Espressif microcontroller as its model.
Not a fit when
- The board is assembled somewhere other than JLCPCB: search and filters run on its database.
- Part names must not be sent to a third-party server.
- The agent has to route the board and run DRC in KiCad itself: the server returns data and does not edit a project.
Example request
Find an N-channel MOSFET with Vgs(th) below 2 V and Rds(on) up to 10 mOhm among basic JLCPCB parts and show alternatives with stock.MCP

Environment variables
MOUSER_API_KEYsecret- Mouser API key for the `mouser_get_part` tool.
DIGIKEY_CLIENT_ID- DigiKey client ID for `digikey_get_part`.
DIGIKEY_CLIENT_SECRETsecret- DigiKey client secret for `digikey_get_part`.
Limitations
Requests go to the pcbparts.dev server. Stock and prices in `jlc_search` come from a daily catalog snapshot; `jlc_stock_check` and `jlc_get_part` return live data. Mouser tools need `MOUSER_API_KEY` and DigiKey tools need `DIGIKEY_CLIENT_ID` and `DIGIKEY_CLIENT_SECRET`; pcbparts.dev applies a shared daily limit to both. Alternatives are checked against specifications, while verifying the circuit and pinout stays with the engineer.
How to disable. Remove the pcbparts entry from the MCP client settings and the `mcp__pcbparts__*` line from permissions in `~/.claude/settings.json` if you added it.
FAQ
Is an API key required?
No. JLCPCB search, reference boards, design rules and sensor picks work without a key. Only the Mouser and DigiKey tools need keys.
How does `jlc_search` differ from `jlc_stock_check`?
`jlc_search` queries a local database refreshed daily and suits most requests. `jlc_stock_check` calls the live JLCPCB API and is for verifying stock before an order and for parts with fewer than 10 in stock.
What does `library_type` set to `no_fee` mean?
It is a filter shortcut that searches basic and preferred parts, which carry no assembly fee at JLCPCB. Each extended part adds a 3 dollar fee.
How do I connect in Cursor or VS Code?
Add a block with the address `https://pcbparts.dev/mcp` to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` for Cursor or `.vscode/mcp.json` for VS Code. The top-level key is `mcpServers` in Cursor and `servers` in VS Code.
How does the server pick alternatives?
`jlc_find_alternatives` checks compatibility against specifications for more than 120 component types and separates verified alternatives from candidates that need a manual comparison.

README in short
Setup is described for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and Copilot for Xcode, the last through `mcp-remote`. The typical flow is design rules and a reference board, part search, the part page with datasheet, alternatives and KiCad files.
