Unity MCP Server
An MCP server for Unity: control the scene, objects, components, builds and profiling from an agent
Medium risk
We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.
Why this level
- Controls the Unity editor and changes your project
- Runs builds and can install editors through Unity Hub
Install
Manual install
git clone https://github.com/AnkleBreaker-Studio/unity-mcp-server.git
cd unity-mcp-server
npm installInstall the server from source. The companion plugin is installed in Unity separately via Package Manager.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The server links an agent to the Unity editor through a companion plugin installed as a UPM package by a git URL. The agent works with the scene and hierarchy, creates and edits GameObjects and components, manages lights, environment, skybox and baking, handles the project and its packages, configures and runs builds, and captures profiling and scene screenshots. Through Unity Hub it can list and install editors and modules. The server discovers running Unity instances and prompts a choice when several exist, and some tools activate only when the matching packages are present in the project.
Who it is for. For Unity game developers who want to control the editor and builds through an agent.
Good fit when
- You need to build a scene, objects and components from a description
- You need to configure and run a project build
- You need profiling or a scene screenshot from an agent
Not a fit when
- You have no Unity 2021.3 LTS or newer
- You cannot install the companion plugin via Unity Package Manager
Example request
Create a red cube at position 0, 2, 0, add a Rigidbody and show the scene hierarchyLimitations
You need Node.js 18 or newer, Unity 2021.3 LTS or newer and the unity-mcp-plugin companion installed via UPM. Bridge paths and ports are set through environment variables. The AnkleBreaker Open License requires attribution and forbids reselling the tool, while personal and educational use is exempt from attribution. Some tools work only when packages such as Amplify Shader Editor are installed.
How to disable. Remove the server entry from your MCP client config and remove the companion plugin from Unity via Package Manager.
