Extended access
Why this level
- Datadog keys open read access to an organization's logs, metrics and incidents.
- Four tools mute hosts and change downtimes, which hides alerts.
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/winor30-mcp-server-datadogDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The server connects an agent to the Datadog API. Through 20 tools the agent reads incidents, monitor status, logs, dashboards, metrics, APM traces and RUM data: events, grouping by a dimension, page performance and a session waterfall. Write operations exist too. `mute_host` and `unmute_host` mute and restore hosts, while `schedule_downtime` and `cancel_downtime` manage scheduled downtimes. Query time is given in Unix epoch seconds, and for logs `DATADOG_STORAGE_TIER` selects the storage layer: `indexes`, `online-archives` or `flex`.
Who it is for. SREs and on-call engineers who triage alerts in Claude Code or Cursor and want the agent to fetch logs, traces and monitor state itself.
Good fit when
- A monitor fired, and the agent gathers logs and traces for it from the last hour.
- Incident review: the agent pulls the record with `get_incident` and puts the facts into a report.
- After a release, metrics and RUM page load times need a before-and-after comparison.
- Planned maintenance is under way, and the agent creates a downtime for the right host or monitor.
Not a fit when
- The agent must change nothing: four tools mute hosts and edit downtimes, so issue keys with minimal rights.
- A managed server from the vendor itself is required: this project is independent, and Datadog ships a separate official one.
- Muting alerts without a human is unacceptable: confirming calls stays with the agent client.

Environment variables
DATADOG_API_KEYrequired, secret- Datadog API key.
DATADOG_APP_KEYrequired, secret- Datadog application key.
DATADOG_SITE- Datadog site, for example `datadoghq.eu`.
DATADOG_SUBDOMAIN- Organization subdomain in Datadog.
DATADOG_STORAGE_TIER- Log storage tier: `indexes`, `online-archives` or `flex`.
Limitations
A community maintains this project independently of Datadog. It needs the keys `DATADOG_API_KEY` and `DATADOG_APP_KEY`; the region is set by `DATADOG_SITE`, for example `datadoghq.eu`. Write tools change live configuration: muted hosts and downtimes hide alerts, so keep call confirmation on. Log and trace queries are bounded by `limit`, 100 by default. The README example targets Claude Desktop; for Claude Code and Cursor, carry the `mcpServers` block over by hand.
How to disable. Remove the `mcp-server-datadog` block from the client configuration and revoke the Datadog keys if they are no longer needed. Hosts muted and downtimes created through the server are lifted in Datadog itself.
FAQ
Which keys does the Datadog MCP need?
`DATADOG_API_KEY` and `DATADOG_APP_KEY`. Set the region with `DATADOG_SITE`, the subdomain with `DATADOG_SUBDOMAIN` and the log storage tier with `DATADOG_STORAGE_TIER`.
Is this server official?
No. A community developer writes it independently of Datadog; the official server has its own card.
Can the agent change anything in Datadog?
Yes, with four tools: `mute_host`, `unmute_host`, `schedule_downtime` and `cancel_downtime`. The rest only read data.
How do I search logs for a period?
Pass `get_logs` a `query` string and `from` and `to` bounds in Unix epoch seconds. `limit` caps the number of rows, 100 by default.
How do I install the server through Smithery?
Run `npx -y @smithery/cli install @winor30/mcp-server-datadog --client claude` and set the Datadog keys in the configuration. Without Smithery, launch it through `npx -y @winor30/mcp-server-datadog`.

README in short
The README lists 20 tools with parameters and return data, then covers the keys and three installation paths: Smithery, a source build and `npx`. A configuration example exists for Claude Desktop.
