Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- Hands repository work to other models and an external CLI.
- File scopes are set by instructions, not by a sandbox.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
This Codex plugin divides one project among several models. The model chosen in Codex leads the conversation, agrees the plan and reviews the outcome. Implementation can go to a compatible worker such as DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, or to Opus 5.5 through an authenticated Claude Code CLI. A separate optional `codex-on-crack-panel` plugin shows phases, model handoffs, run timings and token counters, where known, beside the chat. The project was formerly called Astra Flash Orchestrator and is no longer tied to two models.
Who it is for. Developers with subscriptions to several models who want to split planning from implementation inside Codex and see usage per run.
Good fit when
- The lead model plans while a cheaper worker writes code to the agreed plan.
- Opus should carry out a whole build while Codex handles the browser check.
- You have to decide which of your connected models takes a specific project.
- You want phases and token usage per run in a panel.
Not a fit when
- The task is small and one model in the current conversation is enough.
- There is no second-model subscription or compatible route in Codex.
- OS-level isolation is required: file scopes in instructions are not a sandbox.
Example request
Have Opus plan this and Flash implement it. Bring the result back for review.Limitations
It needs Node.js 24.15 or newer, a Codex client with plugin support and your own model access. Claude mode requires the official Claude Code CLI authenticated by subscription, the adapter targets `claude-opus-5-5`, and other Claude models are not picked up automatically. External Claude sessions do not inherit Codex tools, as the host performs those steps. This is a preview release. Instructions and file scopes are not an OS sandbox. The authors promise no token savings and describe their measurement as one specific test.
How to disable. Remove the plugins through `codex plugin` and delete the marketplace directory. Delete saved panel sessions and run logs by hand.
FAQ
How do I install the plugin?
From a stable folder run `codex plugin marketplace add "$PWD"`, then `codex plugin add codex-on-crack@codex-on-crack`. Start a fresh conversation.
How do I turn on the panel?
Run `codex plugin add codex-on-crack-panel@codex-on-crack`. The panel embeds as an MCP app, with a localhost fallback.
Does the plugin swap a model on its own?
No. Recommendations rest on your configured roles and capabilities, and the plugin never silently substitutes another model or billing route.
Is there an upgrade from Astra Flash Orchestrator?
Yes. The steps are in `docs/UPGRADING.md`, and the old package sits in the `legacy` folder.
What is Codex Router?
A route through which Codex can use a worker model such as DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. A compatible setup on your side is needed.
