GigaMCP: a Chrome extension with MCP tools for GigaChat
gigamcp
An unofficial Chrome extension adds an MCP button to the giga.chat chat: servers by URL, OAuth 2.1, local programs and confirmation of every call

Extended access
Why this level
- The extension reads the giga.chat page and calls MCP servers with your tokens, so connect only vetted servers
- The local helper launches programs on the computer on the model command, in auto mode without manual confirmation
Install
- Services
Manual install
Download `gigamcp-extension-vX.Y.Z.zip` from the repository releases and unpack it, open `chrome://extensions`, enable developer mode and load the unpacked folder, then refresh the giga.chat tab and press the MCP button.

How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
A Chrome extension (Manifest V3) connects MCP servers to the GigaChat web version at giga.chat. An MCP button appears next to the input field, and through it you add servers by URL (Streamable HTTP and legacy HTTP+SSE with automatic fallback) with Bearer token or OAuth 2.1 authorization using dynamic client registration and PKCE. Local stdio programs such as `wordcraft-cli mcp` are launched by a Python 3 helper through Native Messaging, with no Node and no admin rights. Server configs can be imported from Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code. Every tool call shows as a card with Run and Reject buttons, and there is an auto mode of at most twelve steps in a row. Since the web version has no function calling, the model calls tools with a ` ```mcp ` text block carrying JSON.
Who it is for. Users of the GigaChat web version who need external MCP servers in chat, and corporate users on Astra Linux and RED OS where Python 3 is available.
Good fit when
- You must connect your own MCP server with OAuth or a token in the giga.chat chat
- Servers are already described in the Claude Desktop or Cursor config and you want to move them in one go
- You need local stdio programs without installing Node and without admin rights
- Every tool call from the model has to be approved by a human
Not a fit when
- You work in the GigaChat app or API: the extension embeds only in the giga.chat page
- You need reliable function calling: here it rests on a text protocol and the model may err in the `mcp` block
- The browser is not Chromium: the extension targets Chrome 116 and newer
Example request
Connect an MCP server by URL with OAuth to GigaChat and ask it to find a document there, confirming every callLimitations
The extension is unofficial and embeds in the giga.chat web interface, so any page change may break the button or response parsing. Calls go through a text protocol: the model writes an `mcp` block, and a JSON error makes the call fail. Chrome 116 or newer is required, and the extension is installed by hand in developer mode from the release zip archive. Local stdio programs need Python 3 and the helper installer run once. Auto mode is limited to twelve steps. Zero stars, last commit in October 2026, MIT license.
How to disable. Remove the extension on the `chrome://extensions` page and uninstall the stdio helper with the installer command and the `--uninstall` key.
FAQ
How do I install the extension?
Download the zip from the releases, unpack it, enable developer mode at `chrome://extensions` and load the unpacked folder with `manifest.json`.
How does the model call tools?
With text: the reply carries an `mcp` code block with JSON like `{"call": "server/tool", "arguments": {...}}`, and the extension shows a call card.
What about local programs?
They are launched by a Python 3 helper through Native Messaging; the installer is downloaded from the MCP panel and installs without admin rights.
Does it work in Yandex Browser?
The helper registers in Yandex Browser too (as well as Chromium, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Opera), while the extension itself targets Chrome 116 and newer.
Can confirmation be turned off?
There is an auto mode, but it is limited to twelve steps in a row and guarded against an infinite loop.
