kicad-happy

Skills for coding agents that analyze KiCad schematics and boards, catch design mistakes and prepare boards for fabrication

Plugin

Medium risk

We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.

Why this level

  • Reads project files and runs analysis scripts
  • Component sourcing and datasheets reach external services

Install

In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI

npx skillfoxx add plugins/kicad-happy

Detects the agents on your machine, checks the risk and pins the version.

Other ways to install

Run one by one in the Claude Code chat

/plugin marketplace add aklofas/kicad-happy

What it does

kicad-happy turns a coding agent into an electronics design assistant for KiCad. The skills parse schematics and boards into structured data, build the power tree, trace nets and cross-check component values against datasheets. Separate skills handle component sourcing from suppliers, EMC pre-compliance, SPICE simulation and preparing Gerbers for a JLCPCB or PCBWay order. The analysis scripts are pure Python with no required dependencies and do not need KiCad installed.

Who it is for. For electronics engineers and hardware developers who design boards in KiCad.

Good fit when

  • You need to review a schematic or board before ordering
  • You want to build a power tree and check values against datasheets
  • You are preparing Gerbers and a BOM for fabrication

Not a fit when

  • The project is not in KiCad
  • You need a full EDA tool rather than an agent review

Example request

Analyze my KiCad project in hardware/rev2 and find mistakes before I order boards

Limitations

It targets KiCad files and does not fit other formats. Component sourcing and datasheet downloads reach out to external supplier services.

How to disable. Uninstall the plugin via /plugin, or remove the skill links from the ~/.claude/skills directory.

Security check

  • Reads project files and runs analysis scripts
  • Component sourcing and datasheets reach external services

README in short

The README shows how the agent parses a KiCad project: it builds the power tree, identifies subcircuits, traces nets and finds common mistakes. There are skills for component sourcing, EMC, SPICE and fabrication prep, plus a GitHub Action mode for reviewing pull requests. Installation is via the marketplace, agy, opencode or manual skill linking. MIT licensed.

FAQ

Do I need KiCad installed?

Not for analysis: the scripts are pure Python 3.10 and run without KiCad and without pip install.

Which agents does it support?

Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI, Google Antigravity and opencode, plus a GitHub Action.
