What it does
Rosetta from Grid Dynamics is a plugin that loads a team's shared engineering instructions into the agent session, so Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and Codex stop guessing the architecture from a few open files. Rules, standards, skills and workflows live in Git and can run inside your perimeter. The authors put the idea as teaching agents how to think, so there is no need to dictate what to do. Work goes through five phases: prepare, research, plan, act and validate, with approval gates at key decisions. After installation you ask the agent to initialize the repository, and it analyzes the stack and creates five project description files. After that the workflow commands apply: `/coding-flow` for code tasks, `/requirements-authoring-flow` for requirements and three more for test automation and modernization. Skills load on demand, from project context and the code map to debugging, security and subagent orchestration. There is also a skill for text without AI giveaways.
Who it is for. For engineering teams that work with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or Codex together and want the same standards, requirements and checks in every session.
Good fit when
- Every developer on the team writes their own prompts and knowledge of the architecture stays in people's heads
- You need to pull requirements out of existing code and drive development and tests from them, traced to requirement IDs
- Test cases from a test management system have to become working UI or API automated tests
- A large service is being modernized in phases, with test coverage required before the rewrite
- You want agent rules kept in Git, versioned and deployed inside the company
Not a fit when
- You work confidently with your own set of skills and processes: the authors say Rosetta is probably unnecessary then
- You already have similar sets such as Superpowers, JUXT, GSD or AI-DevKit installed: the authors warn about conflicts
- You need a quick one-off script with no process: phases and approval gates slow a short task
Example request
Initialize this repository using the Rosetta workflow; it is an existing project and the dead code is in the legacy folderLimitations
- The authors ask you to get approval from your manager and company before use.
- Recommended models are Sonnet 5.5 at medium effort, GPT-6-luna-high, gemini-3.8-flash-high and newer. Above the recommended effort the agent can spend half an hour reasoning to no purpose, and the authors advise against Opus models and automatic model selection.
- The hosted MCP server is for evaluation only: it is a public demo endpoint, and production or sensitive repositories must not be connected to it.
- The rosetta-mcp and rosetta-cli packages need Python 3.12 or newer. The license is Apache-2.0.
How to disable. In Claude Code run `claude plugin uninstall rosetta@rosetta` and restart the session. If you used the standalone archive, delete the extracted files from the repository, for example the .cursor/agents folder. The files created at initialization, TECHSTACK.md, CODEMAP.md and the rest, are removed by hand.
FAQ
How do I install Rosetta in Claude Code?
Run `claude plugin marketplace add griddynamics/rosetta`, then `claude plugin install rosetta@rosetta`. Files install locally and no live server connection is needed. Then ask the agent to initialize the repository using the Rosetta workflow.
How do I install Rosetta in Cursor or Copilot?
Cursor needs a team marketplace on Teams or Enterprise plans pointing to https://github.com/griddynamics/rosetta, or the standalone archive core-cursor-standalone from the release, extracted into the repository. For Copilot add the same address to chat.plugins.marketplaces and install rosetta through Browse Marketplaces.
What happens when I initialize a repository?
The agent analyzes the stack and creates TECHSTACK.md, CODEMAP.md, DEPENDENCIES.md, ARCHITECTURE.md and CONTEXT.md, asking clarifying questions. For a composite workspace, initialize each repository separately.
How do coding-flow and requirements-authoring-flow differ?
`/coding-flow` takes a concrete task: a feature, a fix or test coverage. `/requirements-authoring-flow` extracts or updates business and technical requirements that code and tests are then built on.
Can I use the shared hosted MCP server?
Only for evaluation, with no production repositories connected. For real work the authors advise plugins or your own MCP server with RAGFlow inside your perimeter.

README in short
The project explains why a team needs a shared rules layer through typical agent failures, from skipped context to self-review without fresh eyes. Installation and setup are covered in separate guides for plugins and MCP.
