How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • The plugin can change code, run checks and perform approved Git operations in a working repository.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

spec-superflow helps an agent choose a development path. A small fix with a clear check can proceed directly; a change spanning modules starts with a short plan for the user to approve. Nine skills help clarify the task, write code and check the result. The CLI retains the verification command, its result and the changes reviewed. The plan and execution mode stay in the task directory so the agent can resume under the same conditions after a break.

Who it is for. For developers who resume unfinished tasks or hand them to another agent with a plan and verification history.

Good fit when

  • Set boundaries before a change spanning several modules.
  • Resume a task after a break using recorded state.
  • Retain the verification command, exit code and result before handing over a fix.
  • Synchronize changed behavior with the project’s main specification.

Not a fit when

  • You need an autonomous process that authorizes its own scope expansion.
  • Your team expects a separate worktree to be created automatically for every change.
  • You need every skill to run automatically on every task.

Example request

Draft a short spec-superflow plan for the authentication change, state boundaries and verification, then wait for approval.

Limitations

The CLI requires Node.js 20 or later; without it, plugin commands cannot start or resume a task. A new planned change needs `proposal.md` and `tasks.md` so the user can inspect its scope before approving it. By default the agent works in the current conversation with one final review and one final verification. Delegated agents, intermediate reviews and separate working directories must be enabled explicitly; installing the plugin does not create them automatically.

How to disable. Disable the plugin in your agent’s extension manager. Preserve change directories before removal because unfinished tasks use them for resumption.

FAQ

Do I need separate OpenSpec and Superpowers installs?

No. The plugin borrows their approaches but ships its own CLI and does not depend on them at runtime.

How do I check installation?

Run `ssf doctor` to check installation, version and resource consistency.

When does the plugin activate in Codex?

When explicitly invoked or when resuming an existing change. It does not enable automatic session-start injection in Codex.

Can a small fix start without a plan?

Yes. The direct path is for a well-scoped task with reproducible verification. Scope growth can move it to an approved plan.

What happens when verification fails?

The task remains unfinished. The agent fixes the problem and runs verification again; a failed check cannot be recorded as success.

README in short

Version 2.1.0 reduces mandatory documents for a new task. Skills update together with their matching CLI, avoiding an unrelated old `ssf` installation on the system.
