What it does
Swttch (formerly Claude Code with GUI) is a JetBrains IDE plugin that shows Claude Code in the familiar graphical form of the Cursor and VS Code extension. It spawns your installed Claude Code CLI and renders its work in a window: a streaming chat with Markdown and code highlighting, the model's thinking, and cards for file reads and writes, shell commands and search. The window offers several sessions in tabs with history, file and image attachments by drag and drop, and slash commands such as /clear and /compact. Alt+K sends the current file to the input as @src/file.ts, and a selection adds its line range. Permission requests arrive as native IDE dialogs, and the permission policy can be changed in settings. Any stream or tool call can be interrupted instantly. The same backend runs without an IDE: the ccg launcher starts it from a terminal and opens the interface in a browser at http://localhost:19836. Optionally a tunnel through cloudflared gives an external address with a QR code so you can connect from a phone. The plugin and the launcher share one port.
Who it is for. For developers in IntelliJ IDEA, Android Studio and other JetBrains IDEs who prefer Claude Code in a window over a terminal, and for anyone who wants a browser interface to it.
Good fit when
- You work in a JetBrains IDE and want Claude Code's file edits and commands shown as cards rather than a text stream
- You need several Claude Code conversations side by side with quick switching by tab
- You want to send a file and selected lines in one keypress with Alt+K, producing a reference like @src/file.ts#L10-L25
- You want to drive a running Claude Code from a phone or tablet through a tunnel address with a QR code
- You prefer the terminal to the IDE but want the same interface in a browser: install the ccg launcher
Not a fit when
- Your IDE is older than 2024.2 or newer than 2025.3: that range is the stated support
- Claude Code CLI is not installed or not signed in: the plugin only wraps it
- You work in VS Code or Cursor: they have a native Claude Code extension
- You cannot expose external access: the cloudflared tunnel makes the local server reachable at an external address, so do not enable it on a work machine without need
- On Linux with Wayland clipboard paste fails, and older IDEs and Android Studio can show an empty tab or flat diff colors: see the troubleshooting section
Example request
Explain the selected fragment and suggest a fix: I sent the file with Alt+K together with the line rangeLimitations
- It needs a JetBrains IDE 2024.2 to 2025.3, Claude Code CLI 1.0.0 or newer with sign-in, and Node.js 18 or newer.
- The plugin wraps the CLI the way the official VS Code extension does and does not replace it.
- Managing MCP servers, skills and agents through the interface is only planned, as is full coverage of the settings file.
- Support for Claude's native Remote Control is marked as planned, while the tunnel and sleep prevention are built by the project itself.
- The license is AGPL-3.0.
How to disable. Disable or uninstall the plugin in the IDE plugin settings. The ccg launcher is removed with ccg uninstall, and ccg stop halts a running backend. The files live in ~/.claude-code-gui and the shell rc block is marked with a claude-code-gui comment.
FAQ
How do I install Claude Code GUI in IntelliJ IDEA?
Make sure `claude --version` works and the CLI is signed in. Then install the plugin from the JetBrains Marketplace and open the panel via Tools, Open Claude Code or Ctrl+Shift+C.
What is Swttch and how does it relate to Claude Code with GUI?
It is the new name of the same project. The repository moved from yhk1038/claude-code-gui-jetbrains to Swttch/swttch, and old links and clone URLs keep working. It was renamed so other providers can be supported later.
How do I open the same interface in a browser?
Install the launcher with `curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Swttch/swttch/main/cli/install.sh | bash` and run ccg in a project folder. The interface opens at http://localhost:19836 with the working directory as a parameter.
What do the ccg commands do?
ccg starts the backend and opens the browser. ccg update refreshes the runtime, ccg stop halts the backend, ccg doctor checks the environment, ccg self-update updates the launcher itself and ccg uninstall removes it.
How do I send a file and a selection to the chat?
Press Alt+K or choose Send to Claude Code in the editor context menu. It inserts @src/file.ts and, with selected code, the line range as @src/file.ts#L10-L25.
