How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • Exposes a local service to the whole internet, and without authentication an admin panel and data may leak.
  • Runs `cloudflared` and writes the tunnel configuration into the current directory.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

Cloudflare Tunnel Skill is a workflow skill that helps an agent publish a local HTTP or HTTPS service to the internet. Quick mode creates a temporary `https://*.trycloudflare.com` link for demos and previews. Named mode binds the service to a fixed domain such as `app.example.com` for webhooks and long tests. The agent checks that the local service responds and warns if it hosts an admin panel, tokens or internal systems. It then runs `scripts/tunnel_helper.py` with the `quick`, `status` and `stop` commands or prepares a config through `named-config`.

Who it is for. Developers who need to show localhost to a client or receive a GitHub, Slack or Stripe webhook on a local service.

Good fit when

  • A service on `localhost:3000` must be shown to a client for an hour through a link.
  • A Stripe or n8n webhook needs a public address for a local API.
  • A permanent address like `app.example.com` points to a service on a team laptop.
  • The agent checks the service itself, starts the tunnel and confirms the public link opens.

Not a fit when

  • The service exposes an admin panel without authentication and nothing can close it.
  • A database, Redis or the Docker API would be exposed.
  • You need dependable production hosting, since the service drops when the laptop sleeps.

Example request

Expose `http://localhost:3000` through a temporary Cloudflare tunnel and give the public link, warning if the service has private areas.

Limitations

`cloudflared` and Python 3 must be installed. The helper is tested on macOS and Linux and works on a best-effort basis on Windows. Named mode requires a Cloudflare account and a domain with DNS on Cloudflare. State is written to `.cloudflare-tunnel/` in the current directory, so `status` and `stop` run from the same place where `quick` started. The tunnel exposes the local service to the whole internet: tokens, cookies, API keys and internal systems are secured beforehand, and sensitive services are protected with sign-in or Cloudflare Access.

How to disable. Stop the tunnel with `python3 scripts/tunnel_helper.py stop` from the same directory and delete `~/.claude/skills/cloudflare-tunnel`. Remove a named tunnel and its DNS record in the Cloudflare account.

FAQ

How does quick mode differ from named mode?

Quick mode gives a temporary `trycloudflare.com` link that changes after a restart and needs no Cloudflare sign-in. Named mode gives a fixed domain and needs a Cloudflare account and DNS.

How do I start a quick tunnel by hand?

Run `python3 scripts/tunnel_helper.py quick --url http://localhost:3000`. Check state with `status` and stop with `stop`.

Why copy three parts?

Claude Code finds a skill only in a `.claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md` directory, and helper scripts must sit beside it. So `SKILL.md`, `scripts/` and `references/` are copied together.

Does the skill work with Codex?

Yes. Installation into `~/.codex/skills/cloudflare-tunnel` uses the same set of files.

What are the system requirements?

`cloudflared` and Python 3 must be installed. `cloudflared` installation is covered in `references/troubleshooting.md`; the script is fully tested on macOS and Linux.
