What it does

Get B-rolls is a skill for gathering videos and images that support a line, illustrate an idea or show the exact person, product and event mentioned in a script. First the agent runs a short interview (seven questions, one per message) and saves the project's `BRIEF.md`. Then it looks for the literal source: the fact, the person, the news item, the site screen. Stock banks Pexels and Pixabay come in only on direct request, never as filler. The preview shows motion in GIFs and labeled frame sequences to judge action, framing and overlaid text. The final choice belongs to a human: through the Storyboard or in words in chat, which the agent records with `approve --candidate <ID> --by NAME --channel chat --statement "..."`. Only then are clips delivered together with a log of origin, review and usage conditions. Sources: YouTube and TikTok through yt-dlp, Instagram through Playwright CLI, NASA with no key. It runs on macOS and Windows.

Who it is for. Video editors and creators who need supporting footage for a voice-over and want to keep the source of each shot.

Good fit when

  • A script names a person, product or event and you need a clip with exactly them, not random stock
  • Each B-roll needs an author, a source link and usage conditions for handing the project to a client
  • The selection has to be reviewed before final clips are downloaded: GIFs and numbered frames show motion
  • A screenshot or screen recording of a site is needed as proof for a line in the edit

Not a fit when

  • You want a ready stock video bank to fill gaps: stocks are used only on direct request
  • The environment lacks FFmpeg with libfreetype, Python 3.11 and Node 22: without them previews and Instagram do not work
  • You want automatic delivery with no human decision: the final step stays a manual approval
  • Your work or the platforms' rules forbid downloading from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram

Example request

I need B-roll for the line "NASA showed the first images": find the original footage, show a Storyboard preview and wait for my decision

Limitations

  • The skill pulls third-party videos and screen recordings, so rights to the material stay with the owners. It records usage conditions, but a human decides on compliance.
  • The full stack is required: Python 3.11, FFmpeg and ffprobe with libfreetype, Node 22, curl and Git. Without FFmpeg the preview has no frame numbers, and without Node YouTube and Instagram fail.
  • The `scripts/install.sh` or `install.ps1` installer creates environments and installs yt-dlp and Playwright CLI.
  • A preview may download working copies, and final delivery depends on approval.

How to disable. Remove the Claude Code plugin through `/plugin`, and delete a manually copied skill with its `get-brolls` folder from the skills directory. The local `.venv` and `.tools` environments and the `brolls/` project folders are deleted by hand.

FAQ

How do I install Get B-rolls in Claude Code?

Run `/plugin marketplace add engenheirodevideo/get-brolls`, then `/plugin install get-brolls@engenheirodevideo`. After that prepare the environment: `bash scripts/install.sh` on macOS and `scripts/install.ps1` on Windows, and check with `python3 scripts/gb.py doctor`.

What do I install beforehand?

Python 3.11 or newer, FFmpeg and ffprobe with libfreetype, Node 22 or newer, curl and Git. On a Mac that is `brew install python ffmpeg node git curl`. The installer adds yt-dlp and Playwright CLI itself.

Where does the skill get material?

It looks for the literal source first: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, site pages, NASA with no key. Pexels and Pixabay stocks are used only on direct request.

How do I approve a found clip?

Through the Storyboard with `import-review` or in words in chat, which the agent records as `approve --candidate <ID> --by NAME --channel chat --statement "..."`. Silence does not count as approval.

What do I get in the end?

Clips together with a provenance register: author, source link, interval, reason for the choice, usage conditions and review records. The project log lives in `brolls/getbrolls.log`.

README in short

The README is in Portuguese, with an English version alongside. It opens with a short description and three strengths: choice with context, a preview before the decision and an organized delivery. Then come the version history (now 2.5.2), the stack install, ways to put the skill into Claude Code and Codex, environment setup, a first B-roll in five minutes and links to the guide and manual.

# GET B-ROLLS — ENGENHEIRO DE VÍDEO

## Passo 3 — Busque fonte literal

`python3 "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/gb.py" brief --beat <ID> --project <projeto>` devolve o comando pronto do beat.
