What it does

MiniMax Skills is a set of 17 skills in the SKILL.md format for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and OpenCode. Some cover development: `frontend-dev` writes interfaces in React, Next.js and Tailwind with Framer Motion and GSAP animations, `fullstack-dev` walks from requirements to backend architecture and implementation, and `android-native-dev`, `ios-application-dev`, `flutter-dev` and `react-native-dev` give rules for mobile platforms. The `shader-dev` skill collects techniques for GLSL shaders compatible with ShaderToy. The document skills work with files on disk. `pptx-generator` builds presentations with PptxGenJS and edits existing PPTX files at the XML level, `minimax-docx` creates and edits Word documents with the OpenXML SDK for .NET, `minimax-xlsx` reads spreadsheets with pandas and recalculates formulas, and `minimax-pdf` creates, fills and restyles PDFs. A separate `pptx-plugin` with five skills and five subagents splits a presentation into pages: cover, contents, sections, content and summary. The rest call the MiniMax platform. `minimax-multimodal-toolkit` and its companions `minimax-music-gen`, `minimax-music-playlist`, `buddy-sings` and `gif-sticker-maker` create speech, songs, video and images through the `mmx` command-line program, and `vision-analysis` analyzes images through an MCP tool from the MiniMax Token Plan subscription. These need a MiniMax API key.

Who it is for. For developers who build web and mobile apps, produce documents and presentations with an agent and try music, voice and video generation through MiniMax.

Good fit when

  • You need a Next.js and Tailwind interface with animations and want the agent bound by design and performance rules
  • An app has to be built on Flutter, React Native, Jetpack Compose or SwiftUI and UIKit under one set of rules
  • The agent has to create or edit a PPTX, DOCX, XLSX or PDF file without losing formatting
  • You need a track, a voiceover or a short video and already have a MiniMax key
  • You need a GLSL shader: ray marching, signed distance fields, particles, post-processing

Not a fit when

  • You have no MiniMax key or subscription: the generation and image analysis skills do not work without them
  • You need only one skill and the set installs all 17: extra skills lengthen the list the agent chooses from
  • The machine has no .NET: the `minimax-docx` skill is built on the OpenXML SDK and does not run without it
  • You need skills for Gradle and Android profiling: `android-native-dev` guides building an app with Compose and Material Design 3 and does not cover those topics separately
  • You need a standalone VS Code extension: the repository has none and suggests running Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode in the terminal

Limitations

The authors note that the project is in beta: skills, API interfaces and configuration formats can change without notice. The plugin version in the manifest is 1.0.0.

The generation skills depend on the MiniMax platform. The `mmx` command-line program is installed with `npm install -g mmx-cli`, and the key is saved to `~/.mmx/credentials.json`. The default chat model is `MiniMax-M2.7`. The `vision-analysis` skill requires a Token Plan subscription, a `MINIMAX_API_KEY` key and a configured `MiniMax_understand_image` tool.

The README table marks the source of each skill: 16 are official and `vision-analysis` is a community skill. Some material is based on work by other authors, listed in `CREDITS.md`, and the `LICENSES` folder holds the Apache-2.0 text next to the main MIT license.

On Cursor and Codex the skills are connected by hand: clone the repository and point to the path or make a symbolic link, with Windows instructions in separate `INSTALL.md` files.

How to disable. In Claude Code remove the plugin with `claude plugin uninstall minimax-skills`. In Cursor, Codex and OpenCode delete the cloned folder and the symbolic links to it, then restart the agent. The MiniMax key is stored in `~/.mmx/credentials.json`, which you can delete, and the `mmx` program is removed with `npm uninstall -g mmx-cli`.

FAQ

How many skills are in the set and how are they grouped?

The `skills` folder holds 17 skills: seven on development and shaders, four on PDF, PPTX, XLSX and DOCX documents, and the rest on media and image analysis. A separate presentation plugin sits in `plugins/pptx-plugin`.

Do all skills need a MiniMax key?

No, only those that call the platform: `minimax-multimodal-toolkit`, `minimax-music-gen`, `minimax-music-playlist`, `buddy-sings`, `gif-sticker-maker` and `vision-analysis`. The development and document skills work without a key.

How do I install it in Claude Code?

With two commands: `claude plugin marketplace add https://github.com/MiniMax-AI/skills` and `claude plugin install minimax-skills`.

What does the buddy-sings skill do?

It makes your Claude Code pet from the `/buddy` command sing a song. From the pet's name and personality it picks a stable voice, gathers context from the conversation, memory and git history for the lyrics and creates the music through `minimax-music-gen`.

Which file formats does the xlsx skill handle?

`.xlsx`, `.xlsm`, `.csv` and `.tsv` files. It creates new spreadsheets from XML templates, reads data with pandas, edits existing files without losing formatting and recalculates formulas.

README in short

The root description opens with a beta notice and a table of all skills with their source, then gives install commands for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and OpenCode and notes that there is no standalone VS Code extension. Each platform has an `INSTALL.md` file, and the repository has English and Chinese descriptions but no Russian one. The `skills` folder holds skills with references and templates. The presentation plugin sits in `plugins/pptx-plugin`, and the contribution review rules and the `validate_skills.py` script sit in `.claude/skills/pr-review`.
