Why this level
- The repository holds hooks and a sample `settings.json` that change the agent's permissions and automatically approve compound commands if transferred unedited
- Some skills run scripts and tools on your machine
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add skills/sam-s-agentic-coding-rules-templates-and-examplesDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
Sam McLeod's repository holds the working setup he uses to develop with coding agents. The core is the `Skills/` directory with nearly sixty skills: code review and simplification, systematic debugging, development plans, Mermaid and Excalidraw diagrams, documentation lookup, JSON Schema lookups and guides for Go, Python, Rust, Swift and TypeScript. Separate skills cover slides, the Home Assistant smart home, Raspberry Pi and LLM-based wikis. Beside them sit agent rules, with `Rules/CLAUDE.md` named by the author as the most complete, command templates for Claude Code, five custom subagents, hooks in Go and bash, a sample `settings.json`, a status line and a local plugin marketplace with an OpenTofu language server definition. There are extensions and themes for the Pi environment and two ready MCP configuration files. The README collects the author's tips: start with a plan, keep context within 200 to 300 thousand tokens, turn on a sandbox for commands and add rules only for behavior that differs from the agent's default.
Who it is for. Experienced Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode users who assemble their own agent configuration and look for tested skills, rules and hooks to borrow.
Good fit when
- You are writing your own `CLAUDE.md` and want to compare it with rules that someone has refined for months
- The agent is stuck on a hard bug and you need a systematic debugging skill
- You work in Go, Rust, Python, Swift or TypeScript and the agent needs language idiom guidance
- An architecture diagram has to be built in Mermaid or Excalidraw straight from the chat
- You want an example of organizing Go hooks, a status line and a local plugin marketplace
Not a fit when
- You want a compact set with one theme and detailed references: this is a personal archive of varied skills
- You need a ready installer with a package and versions: the author publishes files to copy rather than a package
- You need skills in Russian: the repository text is in English
Example request
Use the systematic-debugging skill: tests fail only in CI, work out the cause step by step and change no code until you reproduce the errorLimitations
The author does not describe installation: the generic `npx skills add sammcj/agentic-coding` command works, or you can copy the folders you need from `Skills/` into the agent's skills directory. The skills sit under a capitalized `Skills/`, so the installer may miss them, and copying by hand then helps. The Go hooks need compiling, and `settings.json` and the rules reflect the author's personal habits and need editing before use. The author calls most skills and rules portable, but not all of them.
How to disable. Delete the copied skill folders from the agent's directory and the hook entries from `settings.json` if you transferred them. A local plugin marketplace is removed with `/plugin marketplace remove` in Claude Code.
FAQ
How do I take a single skill from the set?
Open the folder in `Skills/`, for example `Skills/systematic-debugging`, and copy it whole into the project's `.claude/skills/` or `~/.claude/skills/`. Or pick the skill in the interactive menu of `npx skills add sammcj/agentic-coding`.
Which agents does it suit?
The author calls most skills and rules portable between agentic coding tools. Hooks, commands and the plugin marketplace sit in the `Claude/` directory and are built for Claude Code.
What is Pi in the repository?
The `Pi/` directory with extensions, themes and settings for the Pi environment. You do not need it for Claude Code and can ignore it.
Does the author recommend GitHub MCP servers?
No, the author recommends using the `gh` command line and the API directly, because ready tools consume many tokens. The `MCP/` directory holds two minimal config files.
How does the author suggest keeping context?
Start with a checklist plan, open fresh sessions often and stay under 200 to 300 thousand tokens. When a hard problem is solved, ask the agent to describe what worked and what misled it, then update the rules.

README in short
The description opens with a table of contents and a list of what the repository contains: skills, subagents, rules, commands and a local marketplace. A long section of tips on planning, context, sandboxing and choosing subscriptions and providers follows, then links to third-party plugins and the author's sites. The license is Apache 2.0.
