How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The skill runs local checks and writes report files into the project.
- HTML reports may include source code and local paths.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Simple Reviewer analyses code that an AI agent wrote or changed. The skill splits it into functional blocks, describes the input, processing and output of each block and names the file, symbol and line range. Afterwards it checks the result against the user's goal. Each goal gets a recorded check, an observation and a stated scope. The output is standalone HTML pages with block navigation plus Markdown copies. A full report with side effects and next steps is built on request.
Who it is for. People building a product with Codex who do not read code fluently and need to know what the agent changed and whether it really works.
Good fit when
- A vibe-coding session just ended and you want to know which files the agent touched.
- You inherited an AI-written project and cannot see what lives where.
- Before accepting a change, the result must be compared with the original goal and the checks recorded.
- A client or colleague wants a plain-language report: goal, changes, side effects, next step.
Not a fit when
- You want automatic defect discovery; the report generator finds no bugs by itself.
- Work happens in another agent and the skill would have to be ported by hand.
- The code ships in a product with strict licensing rules; the repository carries no license.
Example request
`$simple-reviewer-v1` Review the code we just changed. Explain each functional block, say where it lives, check the result against my goal and produce an HTML breakdown with a Markdown copy. Review only, do not change the code.Limitations
The skill targets Codex. Explanations and reports default to Simplified Chinese; request another language explicitly. The generator validates and renders a review record but runs no commands: the agent reads the code and enters results itself. Static reading never counts as a runtime check. Install paths and sync scripts in the README assume Windows and PowerShell. The repository states no license, so reuse rights stay with the author. Generating reports needs Python 3; the optional browser checks need Node.js and Playwright.
How to disable. Delete the `simple-reviewer-v1` directory from your personal Codex skills and start a new conversation. Generated reports stay in the chosen output folder and are removed separately.
FAQ
Which files does the skill create?
By default `code-breakdown.html` and `code-breakdown.md`. Full mode adds `reviewer-overview.html`, `reviewer-overview.md`, `report.html`, `report.md` and `review.effective.json`.
What do the status colours mean?
Green marks a check within the recorded scope, red a confirmed issue, yellow a pending check and grey an unchecked item. The colour describes verification status and is not a code quality score.
How do I test the report generator itself?
Run `python -B scripts/test_reviewer_report.py`, then `python -B scripts/reviewer_report.py validate assets/review.example.json`. Only Python 3 is required.
What happens when code changes after a check?
The skill keeps SHA-256 snapshots of registered files and logs. A changed source makes the evidence stale, and it is verified again.
How do I invoke the skill?
With `$simple-reviewer-v1` in a new Codex conversation. No exact wording is required; the skill adapts to the stage of work.

README in short
The repository is bilingual with the English section first. Tool version 1.2.0, invoked as `$simple-reviewer-v1`. It ships a demo order-export example with a deliberate pagination bug and CI checks on Windows and Linux.

--- name: simple-reviewer-v1 description: "Use when 用户要求检查刚刚由 Codex 编写或修改的代码、单独生成代码拆解文件、说明各板块作用和代码位置、用彩色流程图定位问题,或复核实际行为是否完成原始目标;也用于简单的审阅者1.0、节点复验和修复后复核。" 可选字段的精确定义见 [报告记录规范](references/report-contract.md)。
