What it does

Solana Development Skill is one large skill, solana-dev, from the Solana Foundation. It gives an agent Solana development practices current as of July 2026. The main SKILL.md sets stack defaults, and details sit in a references folder that loads on demand. The default stack: the client is @solana/kit 8 with plugin clients (createClient and .use()), building transaction v1 by default. Wallets and UI use @solana/kit-plugin-wallet with @solana/react. Programs use Anchor 1.2.x, or Pinocchio 0.11 and newer for high performance. Testing uses Surfpool for integration (mainnet forking, cheatcodes, embedded SDK) and LiteSVM or Mollusk for unit tests. Codama generates IDLs and clients. A migration route to web3.js v3 covers legacy codebases. The references also cover vulnerabilities and prevention, payments (Kit, Solana Pay, Kora), Token-2022 confidential transfers, one-shot RPC lookups with curl, a version compatibility matrix for Anchor, Solana, Rust and GLIBC, a map from error messages to fixes and an Anchor 0.32 to 1.x migration guide.

Who it is for. For Solana dApp and on-chain program developers: wallet-connected frontends, Anchor or Pinocchio programs, tests and security review.

Good fit when

  • You are building a React or Next.js Solana UI with wallet connection and transaction signing
  • You are writing an Anchor program, such as an escrow, or porting it to Pinocchio to save compute units
  • You need Surfpool integration tests for a token transfer or LiteSVM unit tests
  • Anchor fails with GLIBC_2.39 not found or Solana CLI and Anchor versions do not fit together
  • Code on web3.js v1 must move to web3.js v3 or Kit
  • A program needs a review for common vulnerabilities before an audit

Not a fit when

  • You need a ready MCP with live on-chain data and analytics: the skill teaches development and serves no market data
  • You work on another chain or on EVM: the skill covers the Solana ecosystem only
  • You need a full independent smart-contract audit: the security section is a review aid and does not replace an auditor
  • You need code for old stack versions: by default the skill pushes Kit 8, transaction v1 and Anchor 1.2.x

Example request

Create an Anchor program for a simple escrow and write Surfpool integration tests for it. Use the solana-dev skill

Limitations

SKILL.md lists the requirements: Node.js 20.18 or newer, a Rust toolchain, Solana CLI and Anchor CLI. Stack versions are pinned to the release moment (Kit 8, Anchor 1.2.x, Pinocchio 0.11); if your project differs, check the compatibility matrix in references.

Do not download the archive through GitHub's Code, Download ZIP: it nests SKILL.md too deep for the app uploader to find. Use solana-dev.zip from the latest release.

How to disable. Delete the solana-dev folder from ~/.agents/skills, ~/.claude/skills or the project's .agents/skills and .claude/skills. If you installed with the --link flag, remove the symlinks first.

FAQ

How do I install the Solana skill in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add solana-foundation/solana-dev-skill: the skills.sh installer detects your agents. Or clone the repo and run ./install.sh; --project installs into the project, --link creates symlinks that update with git pull.

How do I load the skill into a desktop app?

Download solana-dev.zip from the latest release and upload it as a custom skill. GitHub's Code, Download ZIP archive does not work: it nests SKILL.md too deep.

How does Surfpool differ from LiteSVM in this skill?

Surfpool covers integration tests: mainnet state forking, cheatcodes and an embedded SDK. LiteSVM and Mollusk are the default for program unit tests.

Which SDK does the skill recommend in place of web3.js?

@solana/kit 8: the client is built with createClient() and .use() plugins, and transactions default to the v1 format. web3.js v3 stays the migration target for legacy v1 code.

What do I do about GLIBC_2.39 not found when running Anchor?

It is one of the README examples; the references hold a version compatibility matrix for Anchor, Solana CLI, Rust and GLIBC and a common-errors.md file that maps messages to fixes.

README in short

The repository presents the skill as a set of Solana development practices, lists supported agents and a stack overview, then install routes: skills.sh, the install.sh script, a ZIP upload and manual copying with a folder table per agent. It then shows the references layout, topic list, example prompts, a stack decision table, content sources (Blueshift, Solana docs, Kit, Pinocchio, LiteSVM, Surfpool) and a small trigger benchmark.

# Solana Development Skill

## What this Skill is for
Use this Skill when the user asks for:
- Solana dApp UI work (React / Next.js)
- Wallet connection + signing flows
- Transaction building / sending / confirmation UX
- Transaction v1 / larger transactions (SIMD-0385) — the default format for new code; sending, reading, indexing
- On-chain program development (Anchor or Pinocchio)
- Program architecture — state layout, PDA seed conventions, naming, parallelization, cranks, vault topology
- Client SDK generation (typed program clients)
- Local testing (Surfpool, LiteSVM, Mollusk) and fuzz testing (Trident, cargo-fuzz)
- Security hardening and audit-style reviews
- Confidential transfers (Token-2022 ZK extension)
- **Toolchain setup, version mismatches, GLIBC errors, dependency conflicts**
- **Upgrading Anchor/Solana CLI versions, migration between versions**
- **Migrating web3.js v1 code to web3.js v3 or Kit**

## Default stack decisions (opinionated)

1) **SDK: @solana/kit 8 plugin clients, transaction v1 by default**
- Build clients with `createClient()` from `@solana/kit`, then `.use(...)` plugins. Pass `transactionConfig: { version: 1 }` to the RPC plugin so every transaction the client plans is v1:
  ```ts
  createClient()
    .use(signer(mySigner))
    .use(solanaRpc({ rpcUrl, transactionConfig: { version: 1, priorityFeeLamports: lamports(5_000n) } }));
  // or solanaLocalRpc / solanaDevnetRpc / solanaMainnetRpc from @solana/kit-plugin-rpc
  ```
- **Transaction v1 is the default for new code**. Set `version: 1`; the planner otherwise defaults to v0. Plugin clients estimate compute and loaded-accounts-data limits by simulation. On manual pipelines, use Kit's resource-estimation helpers instead of guessing limits; use fixed values only for measured overrides or deliberate caps. See [transactions-v1.md](references/transactions-v1.md).
- Manual `pipe()` + `createTransactionMessage({ version: 1 })` is the low-level alternative for when you need control over every step (custom lifetimes, offline signing, bespoke planners) — see [kit/advanced.md](references/kit/advanced.md). It is not the default path.
