Install the tool
brew install aoeCommands for macOS and Linux, on Windows run them in Git Bash.
Install AoE: brew install aoe (or curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/agent-of-empires/agent-of-empires/main/scripts/install.sh | bash). Run aoe add --cmd claude to create a Claude Code session, and aoe serve for the web dashboard.

What it does
AoE runs each coding agent in its own persistent tmux session, so agents keep working after you close the terminal, lose the SSH connection or the shell crashes. It shows the status of every running agent, sends notifications when one finishes, and can open several sessions across different git worktrees or repositories at once. You control it from a terminal TUI, from a browser on your phone, or through an HTTP API. Sessions can optionally run isolated in Docker, Podman or Apple Containers, with a diff viewer built into the dashboard.
Who it is for. For developers who run several coding agents on different tasks at once and want to track them from one place.
Good fit when
- You need to run several coding agents in parallel on different branches
- An agent should keep working after SSH disconnects or the terminal closes
- You need to check session status from a phone browser
- You need each session isolated via a git worktree or container
Not a fit when
- You work with a single agent in one terminal without parallel tasks
- You need native Windows support without WSL2 — AoE depends on tmux and POSIX

Runs on Linux and macOS; on Windows only through WSL2. Requires tmux to be installed, and Docker or an equivalent for container isolation. AoE does not replace coding agents, only manages their sessions.
How to disable. Remove the aoe binary (brew uninstall aoe or delete it from PATH) and stop any remaining tmux sessions manually with tmux kill-session.

FAQ
What happens if I close AoE?
Nothing: sessions keep running in tmux in the background and are removed only manually.
How is this different from plain tmux?
tmux gives you persistent sessions; AoE adds agent status detection, git worktree management, container isolation, a web dashboard with phone access, and a diff viewer. You can still attach to any AoE session with plain tmux attach.
