What it does
capa describes all agent capabilities in a single `capabilities.yaml` file: skills, tools, rules and MCP servers, and works as a package manager and an MCP gateway. Installation: `curl -LsSf https://capa.sh/install.sh | sh` (there is `install.ps1` for Windows). A server is added with `capa add --server --id brave --cmd npx --arg @brave/brave-search-mcp`. The author's claim of 19–40% token savings is his self-assessment. Version 2.2.4 from 23.09.2026, MIT license.
Who it is for. For teams that want to describe the agent's skill and server set in one file and reproduce it for every developer.
Good fit when
- You need to describe a set of skills and MCP servers in one file
- You need a single MCP gateway for an agent
- You need to reproduce the agent environment across a team
Not a fit when
- You cannot run install scripts over the network
- You need verified token savings: the author's figures are self-assessment
Example request
Describe two skills and a search server in capabilities.yaml and connect them to the agent with one commandLimitations
The install script is downloaded over the network and run through the shell: read it before running. The gateway proxies the tools of connected servers, so access is extended. Check the claimed token savings on your own project.
How to disable. Remove the capa binary the way you installed it, the capabilities.yaml file from the project and the client entries.
