What it does
ClaudePrism is a desktop app on Tauri 2 and Rust for working on papers, theses, presentations and posters. Files stay on your disk and LaTeX is compiled by the embedded Tectonic, so there is no need to install TeX Live. The editor has a built-in chat with Claude. You can choose Sonnet, Opus or Haiku and a reasoning level. The agent edits files, searches and runs commands, and its changes appear in a separate panel with visual diffs where you accept or reject each chunk. Every save creates a snapshot in a local Git repository inside the project. The app installs uv and creates a project virtual environment in one click so Claude Code can run Python for plots and analysis. More than a hundred domain skills from the K-Dense Scientific Skills catalog install into ~/.claude/skills/ or the project. PDFs get a viewer with SyncTeX and region capture to ask Claude about a page. There is also Zotero integration through OAuth and the `/review` and `/init` commands.
Who it is for. For researchers, students and paper authors who write in LaTeX and want Claude Code to edit text inside the editor while files stay on their computer.
Good fit when
- Write a paper or thesis in LaTeX with Claude and accept each edit separately
- Review a manuscript with `/review` and get comments on structure and arguments
- Build a plot or work through a table in Python in the project environment without leaving the editor
- Ask Claude about an equation, figure or reviewer comment by selecting a region in the PDF
- Pull a bibliography from Zotero and insert a source citation into the text
Not a fit when
- You need several authors collaborating in a browser: the app is local and single-user
- The manuscript must not go to external services: with AI features the content of files Claude reads is sent to the Anthropic API
- You only want the skills without an editor: K-Dense Scientific Skills install into Claude Code directly
Example request
Read the methods chapter, find places missing citations and propose edits as changes I can accept one by one.Limitations
Storage and compilation run locally. Retention of AI requests and the training opt-out are covered in the Claude Code data usage documentation.
The Anthropic API is unavailable from Russia and ClaudePrism runs on Claude, so the AI features do not work without your own access to it.
History snapshots live in the .claudeprism project directory and increase its size. The project grew out of Open Prism by assistant-ui and is MIT licensed.
How to disable. Close and remove the app the usual way for your system. Delete skills installed into ~/.claude/skills by hand; the project history stays in the .claudeprism folder.
FAQ
How do I install ClaudePrism?
Download the latest build from the repository releases page and install it for your system. The project has no install command. The editor connects to Claude Code, so Claude must be available on your computer.
How is ClaudePrism different from OpenAI Prism?
OpenAI Prism runs in the cloud and requires uploading files to servers. ClaudePrism is a native app: files stay on disk, the model is Claude and the license is MIT.
Do I need to install TeX Live?
No. Tectonic is embedded in the app, and LaTeX packages download once on first use and are cached. After that, compilation works without a network.
Which scientific skills are available?
The K-Dense Scientific Skills catalog: bioinformatics, cheminformatics, data analysis and visualization, machine learning, clinical research, scientific communication, multi-omics and other fields. Skills install globally or per project, and Claude loads them when relevant.
How do I undo an edit Claude made?
Every save creates a snapshot in the project local Git repository. You can label important points, compare any two snapshots and restore either.

README in short
The project compares itself with the cloud-based OpenAI Prism and bets on staying local. Besides the editor, it has project templates with a creation wizard, drag and drop for PDF, BIB and images, and work with external editors Cursor, VS Code, Zed and Sublime Text.
