How we review

Broad accessThe tool can change data, run commands or handle secrets.

  • Edits Codex session files and the SQLite database
  • The author does not guarantee that an old session can continue
  • The Windows desktop version is unsigned

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

After changing the model provider in Codex, old sessions keep being listed under the former provider. codex-provider-sync aligns the provider data in session files and in the SQLite index. The author does not guarantee that an old session will be able to continue or compact. There are three entry points: a portable desktop version for Windows x64 without Node.js (unsigned), Local Web and a CLI installed with `npm install -g @dailin521/codex-provider-sync`. There are no Electron builds for macOS and Linux, but there is an old .NET version. The main README is in Chinese, and the English version is in `docs/README_EN.md`.

Who it is for. For people who changed the model provider in Codex and want to get access to old sessions back without editing files and the database by hand.

Good fit when

  • After a provider change old Codex sessions vanished from the list or are bound to the former one
  • You need a utility with backups and recovery instead of editing the database by hand
  • You need a portable version for Windows without installing Node.js

Not a fit when

  • You did not change the provider: the utility solves only that problem
  • You need a desktop app build for macOS or Linux: there is none

Example request

Make a backup of the Codex data, align the provider in old sessions and show how many sessions were updated

Limitations

The utility edits Codex session files and the SQLite database, so before running check that backups are created and try it on a copy of the data. The author does not guarantee that an old session will be able to continue or compact. The Windows desktop version is unsigned. For macOS and Linux there are the CLI and Local Web but no Electron. The main README is in Chinese. The task is narrow: the utility is only needed after a provider change. The latest release is v1.0.4 from 28.09.2026.

How to disable. Remove the package with npm uninstall -g @dailin521/codex-provider-sync. If something went wrong, restore the Codex data from the backup the utility created.
