What it does
CodexPro runs on your machine and opens tools for repositories you allow to ChatGPT in developer mode: reading, searching, editing and checking code. It is not a cloud service, not a model proxy and not a way around quotas. It installs with `npm install -g codexpro`, and Node.js 20 or newer is needed. To connect the web version of ChatGPT you need an HTTPS address of your machine through a Cloudflare, ngrok or Tailscale Funnel tunnel. MIT license, and the version and launch procedure are described in the README.
Who it is for. For developers who work in ChatGPT with developer mode and want it to read and edit their local repositories.
Good fit when
- You need to give ChatGPT access to a local repository through MCP
- You need code search, editing and checking tools in web ChatGPT
- You need a local server and not a cloud intermediary
Not a fit when
- You cannot open repository access through a public tunnel
- You need protection stronger than a token in the connection address
Example request
Find the function in the repository that calculates tax, suggest a rounding fix and run the testsMCP
- Transport
- http
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
Web ChatGPT needs a public HTTPS tunnel to your machine, and the connection form uses No Authentication: the token in the address is the protection. So the address must not be published, and access through it equals editing your repository's files. Give access only to the needed repositories and revoke the address when it is not needed. Access is wide.
How to disable. Stop the server, close the tunnel and remove the connector from ChatGPT. The package is removed with npm uninstall -g codexpro.
