Broad access
Why this level
- The agent reads and writes files, runs shell commands and connects MCP servers
- The DeepSeek key is kept in settings and requests containing project code go to the provider's API
- Installation uses a script from the network and packages that run code on install
Install
Manual install
curl -fsSL https://deeptide.sh/install.sh | shFor macOS 15 and newer. Installs the deeptide and tide commands. Sign in with tide auth login or tide login.

What it does
DeepTide is a coding agent that talks to the DeepSeek API by default. The repository combines three variants. A native build for macOS 15 and newer installs with a script from deeptide.sh. The terminal CLI installs as the deeptide package and uses Bun: it is a thin wrapper over Zero CLI, with commands named deeptide and tide. The Rust version deeptide-rs installs through npm as a single binary with no runtime and has a --gui mode with an egui window. On the macOS version you sign in with tide auth login or tide login using a DeepSeek key. Then tide opens a REPL, tide -p runs one request and tide doctor checks the install and network. The DEEPSEEK_API_KEY variable covers a no-login setup. Other providers with the Anthropic protocol connect with --base-url and --api-key. The Rust version's window uses the same configuration and sessions as the CLI. The repository also holds sample projects, a skills folder with agent skills and the source of a local ds4 engine with a dsgo gateway for DeepSeek V4 Flash on Metal.
Who it is for. For developers who want a coding agent on DeepSeek models with a choice between a native macOS app, a terminal and a Rust window.
Good fit when
- You work with DeepSeek models and want an agent tuned for them on a Mac with macOS 15 or newer
- You need a single binary with no Bun or Node for CI or a slow laptop: deeptide-rs fits
- The agent should reach any Anthropic-compatible address through --base-url, for example Zhipu GLM or Qwen
- You want a window with tool-call cards and approvals with a colored diff that shares settings with the terminal
- You want ready skills for pixel games, HTML decks and briefs that sit in the skills folder
Not a fit when
- You need a setup without Bun: the deeptide terminal package requires Bun at runtime
- You need the native Swift interface on Linux or Windows: it exists only on macOS
- You expect a single code source: the deeptide package redirects to @paean-ai/zero-cli and the Rust version lives in the repository's crates
- You need an official link to DeepSeek: the authors say the project is independent and not affiliated with DeepSeek or Anthropic
Example request
Explain how the authorization layer in this project works and suggest where to add a permissions checkLimitations
- On Linux and Windows you get the terminal CLI with Bun and the Rust version; there is no native build.
- The native version requires macOS 15 or newer.
- The main path uses the DeepSeek API with the DEEPSEEK_API_KEY key. Other providers need an Anthropic-compatible address.
- The thin deeptide wrapper mirrors Zero CLI; see its docs for configuration details.
- The authors say DeepTide is independent and not affiliated with Anthropic or DeepSeek.
How to disable. Remove the terminal package with bun remove -g deeptide or npm uninstall -g deeptide, and the Rust version with npm uninstall -g deeptide-rs. Delete the native macOS app like any other program. Settings live in ~/.config/tide/settings.json.
FAQ
How do I install DeepTide on a Mac?
Run curl -fsSL https://deeptide.sh/install.sh | sh. The script downloads a signed build for your architecture and installs the deeptide and tide commands. macOS 15 or newer is required.
How do I install DeepTide on Linux or Windows?
Install Bun, then run bun add -g deeptide or npm install -g deeptide. For the Rust version with no runtime use npm install -g deeptide-rs.
How does deeptide differ from deeptide-rs?
deeptide runs on Bun and mirrors Zero CLI, while deeptide-rs is a separate Rust binary of about 10 MB with a window launched by --gui. Their commands differ and they can coexist.
How do I use a model other than DeepSeek?
Through an Anthropic-compatible address: tide --base-url <address> --api-key <key>. The docs mention Zhipu GLM, Volcengine, Qwen, Moonshot and your own gateways.
What is in the skills folder?
Agent skills derived from the repository's samples: pixel-art coding, design, HTML decks, game loops, responsive Canvas shells, code handoff and research briefs.

README in short
The page opens with a comparison of three variants: a native macOS app, a terminal CLI and a Rust version with a window. It then gives installs for Mac and for Linux and Windows, a quick start with DeepSeek and other providers, and a detailed account of the Rust window: streaming chat, reasoning, tool cards, approvals and a cost bar. It closes with sample projects, skills, building the local engine for DeepSeek V4 Flash and issue-reporting rules.
