Why this level
- Creates temporary source exports and shares them with the selected model provider.
- Keeps completed walkthroughs in a local cache.

Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- Creates temporary source exports and shares them with the selected model provider.
- Keeps completed walkthroughs in a local cache.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
diff-tour creates an interactive terminal walkthrough of a Git change. You select a branch, commit or range, and an existing agent explains the purpose and reading order. Questions let you predict code behavior before revealing an answer. Displayed source comes from Git at the relevant commit. After generation, the CLI validates referenced files and lines, asks the model to repair invalid references and saves the tour for later use.
Who it is for. For developers learning the reasoning behind a change before review or exploring unfamiliar code.
Good fit when
- Understand a large change in logical steps
- Study a commit before discussion
- Test your understanding with review questions
- Reopen a saved walkthrough without generating it again
Not a fit when
- Your code cannot be shared with the selected model provider
- You need automatic bug fixes
- You need a certified safety assessment of the change
Example request
Walk through this branch, explain which files to read first and ask what happens if the operation runs twice.Limitations
New tours require Git and a supported agent CLI with a working sign-in on the machine running the tool. Files from the compared revisions go to the selected model provider, so source-code sharing restrictions still apply. Gemini CLI and Copilot CLI support is experimental and needs evaluation for your workflow. Codex isolation has been tested on Linux, while the macOS setup remains untested; do not treat its behavior there as fully verified.
How to disable. Quit the viewer with `q`. To remove the tool, delete the installed `tour` executable from its installation directory.
FAQ
Does viewing a tour change source files?
No. It works from an export and displays source from Git.
Can I inspect one commit?
Yes. Pass the commit identifier to `tour`.
Does a saved JSON tour need a model?
No. A saved tour can be opened without generation.
Is Russian supported?
Yes. Choose it during setup or pass `--lang ru` for one run.
Are ignored files exported?
No. Files covered by `.gitignore` are excluded.

README in short
A tour can include diagrams, tables and your own questions. Explanation labels distinguish repository-backed claims from general engineering judgment.
