Why this level

  • The agent runs the repository's install and checks, creates branches and opens pull requests, that is, runs commands on your machine
  • By default the installer writes skills into every detected agent folder and delivers saved workflows to ~/.claude/workflows

In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI

npx skillfoxx add cli/genie

Detects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

Access and checks

How we review

Broad accessThe tool can change data, run commands or handle secrets.

  • The agent runs the repository's install and checks, creates branches and opens pull requests, that is, runs commands on your machine
  • By default the installer writes skills into every detected agent folder and delivers saved workflows to ~/.claude/workflows

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

Genie splits work on code into steps, and every step is a skill for the agent. For one clear task the /wish command is enough in Claude Code, called $wish in Codex. Genie checks that the task fits a single pass and makes the change in a separate Git worktree. It then runs your repository's checks and asks a different agent that did not write the code to review the exact commit. Finally Genie opens a pull request, and merging stays with you. Bigger work goes through a full loop of separate skills: idea, design, plan and execution, with separate reviews of the design, the plan and the implementation. Designs and plans live in the repository as Markdown under .genie/brainstorms and .genie/wishes, task state sits in one SQLite file, and genie board opens the board. Beside it runs the council skill, which pressure-tests a decision through independent lenses and changes nothing. In total Genie ships 18 skills (among them review, fixing findings and research), 12 saved workflows for Claude Code and 17 CLI commands. Installation fetches a signed binary and spreads the skills across all detected agents.

Who it is for. For developers who hand whole tasks to Claude Code or Codex and want the changes as a reviewed pull request.

Good fit when

  • A task is decided and described, for example deleting dead code and moving a type, and you want a ready pull request
  • A big idea must become a design, then a plan, and be executed in groups with an independent review at each step
  • A decision is contested and needs a check through independent lenses with the council skill
  • Several tasks run in parallel and each must be isolated in its own worktree
  • Code should be reviewed by an agent that did not write it, with a verdict of SHIP, FIX-FIRST or BLOCKED

Not a fit when

  • The edit is small and obvious: in the author's example, deleting dead code took 19.9 minutes and 387,079 tokens
  • The plan is too big: in a sample of 50 tasks the share merged within 8 hours fell to 30 percent for the largest, so split them beforehand
  • You do not trust the repository: /wish runs the repository's own install and check commands
  • You work on Windows: it is not supported, and WSL2 runs but is outside the tested matrix

Example request

/wish Delete src/lib/defaults.ts and its test, move the AgentDefaults type into workspace.ts and open a pull request.

Limitations

Installation supports Linux and macOS on Apple Silicon, and the signed binary is verified offline against its signature and SLSA provenance.

Genie relies on the repository's own checks, so a green result proves only what those checks can prove. Reviewers also err: the author shows a case where a review let a wrong check command through. Read the diff and the verdict before merging.

Genie adds steps to the work, and on small edits they cost time and tokens. Whether the download is reachable from Russia has not been checked.

How to disable. Run genie uninstall: it removes the CLI, the ~/.genie home (with backups), plugin registrations and the recorded skills and workflows.

FAQ

How do I install Genie for Claude Code and Codex?

Run curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/automagik-dev/genie/main/install.sh | bash. The installer fetches the signed binary, runs genie install and puts skills into ~/.claude/skills for Claude Code and ~/.agents/skills for Codex.

Which branch does Genie open the pull request against?

The dev branch by default. Genie rejects the repository's main branches as a base.

How does Genie differ from Superpowers and Spec Kit?

All three guide development step by step, but in Genie plans live in git, task state in one SQLite file, and each step is checked by an agent that did not write the code. Superpowers installs separately for each agent, and Spec Kit through uv.

What are Genie's requirements?

Linux or macOS on Apple Silicon. The Mikro package from the same repository needs Node.js 22.19 or newer. Windows is not supported, and WSL2 runs but is outside the tested matrix.

Can I install only the binary without skills?

Yes. Append -s -- --integrations none to the install command, and the installer skips skill delivery and writes nothing into agent folders.
