What it does
GolemBot puts a coding agent behind a messenger. The `golembot gateway` command starts a service that takes messages from Slack, Telegram, Discord, four more messengers or plain HTTP and hands them to the chosen agent. The agent answers as usual by writing code, reading files and running scripts. The bot posts its reply in the chat. The engine changes with one line of config, and a provider block routes the agent to another model provider without touching code. Images sent in a messenger are saved to disk so the agent can read them. The `/stop` command cancels the running task and keeps the session history. Community skills from the ClawHub catalog plug into the bot. A built-in scheduler runs tasks on a schedule, such as daily summaries, and sends the result to a chat. Every gateway instance serves a dashboard with metrics and channel status, and `golembot fleet serve` combines several bots into one dashboard. The same agent can be embedded in your own product. The `createAssistant` function from the package returns an event stream, so a chat with the agent takes a few lines of Node.js.
Who it is for. For teams where not everyone works in a terminal, and for developers who embed a coding agent in their own product.
Good fit when
- Teammates in Slack or Telegram should ask a bot about a repository and get an answer from Claude Code
- You want a nightly or morning report, such as tests, a dependency audit or a task digest, pushed to a chat on a schedule
- You need to switch from Claude Code to Codex or point the agent at another model provider without changing bot code
- You need a bot for Feishu, DingTalk, WeCom or WeChat, where part of the team talks every day
- You want to embed an agent into a SaaS or internal tool with a `createAssistant` call in Node.js
Not a fit when
- You want a single conversation with an agent in a terminal: Claude Code or Cursor alone is enough
- The chat is open to outsiders: the bot suits a closed team only
- You need a ready framework with chains, a vector database and RAG tooling: the project hands the work to a coding agent and adds none of those layers
- Your messenger is not in the channel list and you do not want to write a custom adapter
Example request
Set up GolemBot on Claude Code and connect it to our Telegram chat so teammates can ask about the repository.Limitations
The bot itself contains no model: you need an installed and signed-in Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode or Codex, plus access to a model provider for it. Node.js 18 or newer is required. The OpenAI and Anthropic APIs are unavailable from Russia.
Each messenger needs its own app tokens, which the channel administrator issues. Email, GitHub Issues and other sources have no ready channels, so you write the adapter yourself.
The bot does what a chat member asks, so set the agent's permissions and the circle of people in the chat in advance. The documentation and dashboard are in English.
How to disable. Stop the gateway service and remove the package with `npm uninstall -g golembot`. The bot folder with its config and history stays on disk and can be deleted by hand.
FAQ
Which coding agents can GolemBot run?
Cursor, Claude Code, OpenCode and Codex. The engine is chosen with the `-e` flag of `golembot init` and changes with one line of config.
Which messengers does the bot work with?
Slack, Telegram, Discord, Feishu, DingTalk, WeCom and WeChat, plus an HTTP API.
How do I point Claude Code at another model provider?
The config sets a provider. Through it Claude Code can use OpenRouter, Codex can use MiniMax and OpenCode can use DeepSeek, with no change to bot code.
How do I stop a long task?
`/stop` in the REPL or in a chat cancels the current task and keeps the session history. In code there is `assistant.cancel()`, and over HTTP a separate `POST /abort` request.
What is ClawHub and how do I install skills from it?
A catalog of OpenClaw community skills that is compatible with GolemBot. Search with `golembot skill search "data analysis"`; installing what you find is also a single command.

README in short
The author describes the project as a way to move a coding agent out of the IDE and terminal into work chats. The docs folder is split by channel, engine and HTTP API.
