How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • Shared input makes it easy to send one command to every agent at once.

What it does

GridBash is a terminal workspace for launching and coordinating several CLI agents. Every pane is a real PTY, and input goes to a chosen pane, a selected set or all panes at once. Profiles launch Codex, Claude, Gemini, Aider, OpenCode, Goose, Amp, Cursor, Copilot, shells and custom commands. The `--worktrees` flag gives each pane its own git worktree. Named grids restore their shape and folder, and `gridbash resume` brings back a saved session. The BashBot Director steers panes toward a shared goal. Agents inside panes see their neighbors with `gridbash agent panes` and send them requests through `gridbash agent prompt`.

Who it is for. Developers who run several agents on one repository and want to see them all in one terminal window.

Good fit when

  • Six agents solve one task in parallel in isolated branches.
  • Answers from Codex and Claude to the same prompt must be compared.
  • A session with dozens of panes must be restored after a reboot.
  • A reviewer agent asks neighboring panes for a status report.

Not a fit when

  • A single agent in an ordinary terminal is enough.
  • The repository has no commits or has modified tracked files, so `--worktrees` will not start.
  • A graphical interface is required instead of a terminal one.

Example request

Launch a 2x3 grid with the codex profile in `--worktrees` mode, give each pane its part of the task and merge the statuses into one summary.

Limitations

Installing through npm needs Node.js 18 or newer; binaries are released for Windows x64, glibc Linux (x64 and arm64) and macOS 13 or newer. On macOS the Option key types characters by default, so for Alt chords run `gridbash doctor` or use the `Ctrl+G` leader. If npm trails the GitHub release, take the artifact from the releases page. `--worktrees` needs a repository with at least one commit and no modified tracked files.

How to disable. Close the grid with `Alt+q`, turn off background terminals in settings and remove the package with `npm uninstall -g gridbash`. `gridbash resume <id> --delete` deletes a saved session.

FAQ

How do I launch six agents at once?

`gridbash 2x3 --profile codex` opens a 2 by 3 grid with Codex. For Claude swap the profile to `claude`; `--count 12 --layout auto` sets the pane count without a fixed layout.

How do I bring back a closed session?

`gridbash resume --latest` opens the latest saved session and `gridbash resume` lets you choose. Codex panes resume through `codex resume <conversation-id>`.

How does an agent talk to neighboring panes?

Inside a pane it calls `gridbash agent panes` for the list and `gridbash agent prompt --others "Report status"` to send a request to all the others.

Do Alt chords work on macOS?

Not immediately: Option types characters. Run `gridbash doctor` to turn Option into Alt, or press `Ctrl+G` and then the key without Alt.

Which agents have profiles?

Codex, Claude, Gemini, Aider, OpenCode, Goose, Amp, Cursor, Copilot, shells and custom commands. `gridbash --list-profiles` shows the detected profiles.
