Why this level
- The CLI sends HTTP requests with supplied permissions; scenarios can change service data and save sensitive responses to reports.

What it does
Hurl describes HTTP checks in plain-text files. Users define requests, expected responses and conditions on headers or bodies. Captured response values can feed later requests, such as a login sequence. Tests run locally or in CI. Built on libcurl, Hurl supports REST, SOAP and GraphQL, uploads and forms. Reports help an agent or teammate locate the failing step.
Who it is for. API testers keeping request sequences and response assertions beside project code.
Good fit when
- An API change needs repeatable status and field checks.
- Authentication needs a value captured from a prior response.
- CI needs a report of a failed HTTP scenario.
- A manual curl sequence should become a reusable test.
Not a fit when
- The test needs browser clicks and page JavaScript.
- Requests must not reach the selected server.
- You expect automatic rollback of changes made by HTTP requests.
Example request
Prepare a Hurl test for login, profile retrieval and required fields against the test API.Limitations
Rust is required only for installation through Cargo; otherwise choose a binary option for your platform. Hurl sends the requests you define, so POST and other operations may change service data. Scenario files and reports can contain tokens or personal data; keep secrets separate and inspect CI artifacts before sharing. Assertions inspect HTTP responses, so browser-interface behavior needs a separate testing tool.
How to disable. Remove Hurl from local scripts or CI and stop the active run. Handle service changes from already-sent requests separately.
FAQ
Can later requests use a response value?
Yes. Captures store selected values for subsequent steps.
How do I check JSON?
Add a JSONPath assertion for the response field.
Which reports are available?
HTML, JSON, JUnit and TAP are supported; choose the CI-compatible format.
Can it inspect HTML?
Yes. XPath queries can check elements in the response.
Does it need a separate hosted service?
No. It runs locally and contacts the endpoints you specify.
