Extended access
Why this level
- The console acts on your behalf at the McDonald's service: it claims coupons, spends points on the draw and reads account data
- Through the CLI an agent creates and deletes note data on your computer and starts a background service on port 23301
- Executables are downloaded by hand from releases, and the README mentions no signature
Install
- Works in
Manual install
Download the mcd-desktop-pet release for your system from https://github.com/kv-chiu/mcd-desktop-pet/releases and run `mcd-desktop-pet start`. Read skill/SKILL.md in the repository and copy it into the agent's skills directory. Create notes with `mcd-desktop-pet note create --text "..."` and parse the output as JSON.

What it does
mcd-desktop-pet is a desktop pet called Fries Buddy for Windows and macOS. It lives in a corner of the screen, reminds you about lunch and opens a web console for working with the McDonald's MCP service. The console calls the service's tools: it claims available coupons, shows the promotion calendar, looks up a dish's nutrition by name, checks the points balance and finds nearby restaurants. The README counts 33 built-in tool definitions, and what you can actually use is whatever the service returns for your account. For agents the repository ships a skill, `skill/SKILL.md`, and the same executable works as a CLI. The `mcd-desktop-pet note create`, `note list`, `note archive` and `note restore` commands manage sticky notes on the desktop, while `start`, `stop`, `status` and `web` control the pet and the console. Every command prints plain JSON to stdout and, on failure, exits non-zero with `{"error": ...}`, so Claude Code, Cursor or Codex parse the reply without extra flags.
Who it is for. Office users with a McDonald's account and developers who want an example project where an agent drives a desktop app through a CLI.
Good fit when
- An agent jots ideas and tasks as sticky notes on the desktop and archives the finished ones later
- A lunch reminder at 12:00 with a time you set yourself in the pet's right-click menu
- You check McDonald's coupons and points from the web console without opening the app
- A developer studies a project where a Go hub, a Godot client and a React console are tied to the pet's animation
Not a fit when
- McDonald's service is unavailable to your account: the tools return only what the official service allows
- The machine runs Linux: the README describes builds for Windows and macOS only
- An agent needs a standalone MCP server to connect to: the project calls the service itself and gives the agent notes and pet control only
- The order and delivery demo in the README looks like a real order flow: those steps run on prepared data
Example request
Put a sticky note on my desktop: finish the document review by end of Friday, then list the active notesLimitations
The project was submitted to a McDonald's developer contest and was not released by the company itself; trademarks and materials belong to their owners. The demo steps in the screenshots (coupons, meal picks, order, delivery) run on prepared data. The set of tools depends on the service reply and account rights. There is no ready install command: you download the executable by hand, copy the skill/ folder into your agent's skills directory yourself, and macOS asks you to confirm the first launch in security settings.
How to disable. Run `mcd-desktop-pet stop`, then delete the downloaded file or app and the skill folder from your agent's directory.
FAQ
How do I install mcd-desktop-pet?
Download the Windows executable or the macOS app from the repository releases and double-click it. Launching without arguments equals `mcd-desktop-pet start`, which brings up the background service and the pet. For an agent, copy the skill/ folder into its skills directory separately.
What does the note list command return?
A JSON array of notes with id, summary and status fields. The `--status` flag takes active, archived or all, and by default the agent sees the active notes on the desktop.
Is this an official McDonald's app?
No, the author calls it a contest entry by an independent developer. It calls the company's MCP service, and the available tools are decided by the service and your account.
How do I open the McDonald's web console?
Right-click the pet and choose the web console item, or run `mcd-desktop-pet web`. If the service is not running, the command starts it in the background without the pet and opens the console in your browser.
Where do I change the lunch reminder time?
In the pet's right-click menu. It has presets for 11:30, 12:00 and 12:30 as well as a custom time and the number of minutes before. By default the pet reminds you ten minutes before 12:00.

README in short
The README, in Chinese and English, covers the pet, the right-click menu with the lunch reminder, the web console and the McDonald's MCP tools. Next come quick-start steps with ready builds and a list of contest files: the declaration, the MCP integration notes and a sample config with environment variables in place of keys. It closes with the MIT license and a note to check nutrition and price data against official channels.
