Install
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add cli/mcp-framework-cliDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
The `mcp` CLI from MCP Framework creates a TypeScript MCP server scaffold. The create command scaffolds a project; `add tool`, `add prompt` and `add resource` generate component files. A developer then implements application logic and builds the server. The standard template uses stdio, with a client launching the compiled Node.js process. Separate generation flags enable HTTP. The `validate` command checks schema descriptions after a build. This is a server-development tool. Installing the CLI does not connect a ready-made data source or API to an agent. Implemented code, access settings and MCP-client configuration determine the operations exposed to a model.
Who it is for. TypeScript programmers building an MCP server and generating its component scaffolds through CLI commands.
Good fit when
- Create a TypeScript MCP server for your own API
- Add a tool, prompt or resource file to a generated project
- After building the project, check that schema fields have descriptions
- Build a server for a local stdio MCP client
Not a fit when
- You need a ready-made server without application coding
- You want to build a Python server
- You expect schema validation to replace logic and access-control tests
Example request
Use MCP Framework to create a local stdio server reading task status from my API. Show the project structure and one tool schema first. Read the API key from the environment and add no write operations.Limitations
The package needs Node.js 18.19.0 or later and targets TypeScript with Zod 3. The last commit was in April 2026; check client and dependency compatibility before a new project. Validate imports dist/tools and instantiates classes, executing their code; schema checks do not establish application correctness. Design HTTP, authentication and CORS separately: --cors permits any origin, so review your access design before enabling it.
How to disable. Remove the generated server from the MCP client and stop its process. Uninstall the CLI with npm uninstall -g `mcp-framework`. Project source and dependencies remain in the selected directory.
FAQ
Which executable names ship?
The package includes `mcp`, `mcp-framework` and `mcp-build`. The first two point to the same CLI. The longer name avoids collisions with another `mcp` executable on PATH.
How do I add a tool?
Run a command such as `mcp` `add tool` price-fetcher inside the project. It generates a scaffold; implement data access and error handling yourself.
What does `validate` check?
Descriptions in tool schemas. Test API behavior and authorization separately.
How do I start the compiled server?
After `npm run build`, the documented command is `node dist/index.js`. A stdio MCP client normally launches this process using its configured file path.
Can it generate an HTTP server?
Yes. `mcp create` accepts `--http` and `--port`. Configure authentication and allowed origins before exposure. Do not add `--cors` automatically; it allows any origin.
What does project creation do?
It writes files and can install dependencies and run a build. MCP Framework code uses MIT.
