Extended access
Why this level
- ov reads local data and, in `--exec` mode, runs the supplied program with user permissions.
Install
Manual install
curl -L -O https://github.com/noborus/ov/releases/download/vx.x.x/ov_x.x.x-1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i ov_x.x.x-1_amd64.debFirst README .deb template for Debian-compatible Linux, amd64. Before running, select an official release at https://github.com/noborus/ov/releases, replace vx.x.x and x.x.x with its actual tag and version, and verify the full filename. Do not run the unchanged template.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- ov reads local data and, in `--exec` mode, runs the supplied program with user permissions.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
ov displays long text and tables with search, filters and pinned headers. Users can open several files, inspect columns and follow appended log lines while an agent helps prepare the data selection. An execution mode runs a program and separates stdout from stderr. Compressed files and wide Unicode characters are supported. This is a text pager, without source-language syntax highlighting.
Who it is for. Operators inspecting logs and tabular exports who need headers visible while navigating long output.
Good fit when
- A long table loses its headers during ordinary scrolling.
- Several authorized logs need live observation.
- An agent’s large report needs terminal inspection.
- A test command needs separate output and error views.
Not a fit when
- Programming-language or Markdown syntax highlighting is required.
- An interactive pager is expected to act as a fully automated parser.
- The selected command must not run with current-user permissions.
Example request
Prepare a sanitized log excerpt for ov and explain how to keep headers visible and find relevant lines.Limitations
The first package template targets Debian-compatible amd64 systems; replace its version placeholders with the selected release before running it. Navigation depends on the terminal, so test keys and wrapping with a short sample. In `--exec` mode, ov runs the supplied program with normal process permissions. Displayed and saved excerpts may contain log secrets; filter the data before sharing it with an agent and check output storage.
How to disable. Close ov and remove it from PAGER if configured as the default. Check processes launched in exec mode separately.
