Broad access
Why this level
- The cloud service can send prompts and keys to agents on your machine, which means remote control over project code and files.
- By default agent work history is read, and recent folder paths and skills from the home folder go to the cloud.
- The agent installs a background service and herdr when missing.
Install
- Works in
Manual install
curl -fsSL https://pitupitu.chat/install | shThe first Quick start command. Alternatives: `brew install klarluft/tap/pitupitu` and building with `cargo install`. Run `pitupitu setup` afterwards.

What it does
pitupitu is an open-source agent you install on each of your machines to link it to the pitupitu.chat cloud service. Through the service you start, check on and unblock sessions of Claude Code, Codex, Kiro CLI, OpenCode, Cline and other coding agents by voice, from a phone or any browser. The conversation, the voice and the web page belong to the hosted service; the repository holds only the Rust program for your machine. The agent opens an outbound WebSocket itself, so no inbound port, VPN or certificate is needed. Agents run inside herdr, a terminal workspace manager, so the same live sessions are visible with the `herdr` command at your desk. The cloud can request a fixed set of operations: list, open and close workspaces and tabs, start an agent in a pane, send a prompt or keys, read a screen and wait. A shell and arbitrary commands are not in that set. The repository includes `skill/SKILL.md`, which teaches your agents to install pitupitu, link a machine and change settings on request.
Who it is for. Developers who run several coding agents on different machines and want to steer them by voice from a phone.
Good fit when
- You left home and a long run on the work computer stopped on an agent question.
- Agents run on a laptop and a server and you want one screen showing every session's status.
- You want to start Codex on a chosen machine with a phrase instead of opening a terminal.
- Routines stored as `skills/<name>/SKILL.md` in the pitupitu home folder are triggered by voice.
Not a fit when
- Sessions and the list of working folders cannot go to an external cloud service.
- You need an offline run with no network and no pitupitu.chat account.
- An agent on the machine must not receive remote instructions while its owner is away.
Example request
Start Claude Code on the laptop in the acme project and run the tests, then tell me when it finishes.Limitations
Works on macOS and Linux. At least one coding agent must be installed and signed in on the machine: pitupitu does not touch their logins. The conversation and voice go through the pitupitu.chat cloud. From your files only `skills/*/SKILL.md` in the home folder, version and installed-agent details and recent working folder paths are sent. History is on by default: pitupitu reads what agents did on the machine, and `pitupitu box history off` switches it off. On macOS the service opens protected folders once at start, and the system asks for permission.
How to disable. `pitupitu box off` keeps the machine linked but starts nothing on it. `pitupitu uninstall` stops and removes the service; config, home folder and herdr stay.
FAQ
How do I install pitupitu and link a machine?
Run `curl -fsSL https://pitupitu.chat/install | sh` or `brew install klarluft/tap/pitupitu`, then `pitupitu setup`. It shows a code to approve at pitupitu.chat.
Do the agents need API keys?
No. Claude Code runs on your Claude plan and Codex on your ChatGPT plan, signed in by you. pitupitu never reads their credentials.
Can a phone run an arbitrary command?
No. The cloud requests only a fixed set of operations through herdr: list, start an agent, prompt and keys, read a screen. There is no shell or arbitrary command.
What is herdr?
A terminal workspace manager for coding agents. If it is missing, pitupitu installs it.
Which systems are supported?
macOS and Linux. Release builds exist for Linux (x86_64, arm64, static musl) and macOS (Intel, Apple silicon) with SHA-256 checksums.
