What it does
The recipient scans a QR code and opens its link in a phone browser. A temporary qrcp server on the computer supplies the file; reverse transfers use an upload page. No dedicated phone app is required. Choose network interface, files and receive folder. Several files or a directory can be transferred, with configurable bind address and link path. Port and path are random by default and the server exits after transfer. Keep-alive changes this behavior; HTTPS uses supplied certificate and key.
Who it is for. Technical writers transferring documents between a computer and phone on one local network.
Good fit when
- Move a finished PDF from a computer to a phone on one network.
- Upload a phone photo to a selected computer folder.
- Share several files with a colleague through one QR link.
- Choose the transfer network on a computer with several interfaces.
Not a fit when
- Devices cannot reach each other on the selected network.
- The transfer link may reach strangers on an untrusted network.
- You need a persistent sharing service with accounts and access logs.
Example request
Prepare a single PDF transfer to my phone on the home network, verifying the interface and closing the server afterward.Limitations
Devices must reach each other over the selected local interface, and network rules must permit the chosen port on the computer. Transfers use HTTP by default; use a trusted network or HTTPS for confidential material. A random path is not a substitute for accounts and recipient permissions. Keep-alive leaves the server reachable after transfer; stop it manually and review the receive directory’s contents.
How to disable. Stop qrcp. The temporary link stops serving, while received files remain in the destination folder.
FAQ
What must I install on the phone?
No dedicated app; the QR code opens a normal browser.
How do I upload to the computer?
Run `qrcp receive` and open its QR link on the phone to see the upload form.
Where do uploads go?
To the current directory or the folder selected with `--output`.
Does the link remain live afterward?
Normally no: the server exits. Keep-alive retains it until manual shutdown.
How is HTTPS enabled?
Pass certificate and key paths: `qrcp --tls-cert /path/to/cert.pem --tls-key /path/to/cert.key MyDocument.pdf`. Substitute your paths and file name.

README in short
Set a receive directory with `qrcp receive --output=/tmp/dir`. Configuration keys `output`, `port` and `path` retain transfer settings.
