How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
termscp is a terminal file client connecting a local directory to a server or storage service. Users browse directories, upload, download and rename files. Bookmarks and recent connections support repeat visits. SFTP, SCP, FTP, S3 and other documented protocols are supported. External applications open files, with saved changes synchronized back to the remote host. The embedded terminal executes system commands under the connected account’s permissions.
Who it is for. Administrators transferring and editing files on their servers without leaving a terminal.
Good fit when
- Upload a prepared file set to a server over SFTP.
- Open a remote configuration in your preferred editor.
- Maintain bookmarks and recent connections for multiple hosts.
- Synchronize an edited local file back to its host.
Not a fit when
- Transfers must run unattended without an interactive screen.
- The tool must prohibit all commands and server changes.
- You need guaranteed versioned backups and recovery.
Example request
Prepare a manual termscp transfer plan with destination-directory and backup checks.Limitations
Each protocol needs its own connection details and server permissions; a bookmark does not grant access. To open a file from termscp, install an appropriate external application and check that it handles the selected file type. The macOS installer uses Homebrew or installs Rust when it is unavailable, so inspect the script first. Synchronization and editing alter remote files with the account’s permissions; keep an original copy before changing configuration.
How to disable. Close the connection and quit termscp. Remove unneeded saved credentials from the system key vault separately.
FAQ
Does it support SFTP?
Yes, alongside SCP and other protocols. Select it when configuring the connection.
Can I use an SSH key?
Yes, for SFTP or SCP. Select the SSH key for an account that can access the required server directory.
Are bookmarks available?
Yes. Save host settings as a bookmark and select it when reconnecting. Directory permissions still come from the configured account.
Where are saved passwords stored?
In the system key vault. Linux needs a configured keyring manager; a host bookmark alone does not replace a stored password or SSH key.
Can it execute commands?
Yes, through an embedded terminal. Consider the remote account’s permissions.
