Extended access

Why this level

  • `ails install` adds a plugin to Claude Code and Codex and puts `ails` on the PATH
  • Reads all instruction files in the project and downloads an analysis model of about 275 MB
  • On the Pro plan `ails check --heal` rewrites instruction files
All reasons and checks

Install

In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI

npx skillfoxx add cli/reporails-cli

Detects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • `ails install` adds a plugin to Claude Code and Codex and puts `ails` on the PATH
  • Reads all instruction files in the project and downloads an analysis model of about 275 MB
  • On the Pro plan `ails check --heal` rewrites instruction files

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

Reporails CLI reads the instruction files a project keeps for agents, such as `CLAUDE.md` and rule files, and checks the whole instruction system against more than 120 rules in six packs: a core pack and one per agent. Antigravity, Claude, Codex, Copilot and Cursor are supported. Running it needs no install or account: `npx @reporails/cli check` or `uvx --from reporails-cli ails check`. The result is a single quality score from 0 to 10 and a list of findings per file. The tool finds unresolved imports, a missing directory layout, vague or too brief directives, absent frontmatter and overlaps between files where one topic repeats in several places. Each agent gets an instruction maturity level on an L0 to L7 scale. `npx @reporails/cli install` puts `ails` on the PATH and installs the Reporails plugin into Claude Code and Codex when they are on the machine. In CI the `reporails/cli/action` runs with `strict` and `min-score` parameters, so weak instructions can block a merge. The analysis model takes about 275 MB and is kept in a cache.

Who it is for. Developers and tech leads whose repository keeps growing `CLAUDE.md`, `AGENTS.md` and rule files, until the agent stops following them.

Good fit when

  • The agent ignores some rules in `CLAUDE.md` and you need to see which directives are vague or buried
  • Instruction files duplicate each other and you want to find repeats and topic overlaps
  • The repository serves several agents, for example Claude Code and Cursor, each with its own rule set
  • The team wants to block a merge when the instruction score drops below a threshold
  • Before writing a new skill or rule, a list of rules for the topic helps

Not a fit when

  • You need to check the project's code: the tool scores agent instructions and does not analyze code
  • You expect file fixes on the free plan: writing fixes with `ails check --heal` is Pro only
  • The project has no instruction files for agents
  • You want a security check of skills, which is a job for other scanners

Example request

Run the Reporails check in this repository and fix the findings in CLAUDE.md that raise the score

Limitations

  • The project is in beta; the README header shows version 0.6.5. Rules and the scoring scale can change between releases.
  • Line-level detail, the recommended order of fixes and writing fixes with `--heal` open on the Pro plan; the free and anonymous modes show the diagnosis and score.
  • The license is BUSL 1.1, converting to Apache 2.0 three years after each release; the model files are licensed separately.
  • The first run downloads an analysis model of about 275 MB, which is worth caching in CI.

How to disable. The `ails` command sits on the PATH after installation: remove it together with the plugin from Claude Code and Codex. In CI remove the `reporails/cli/action` step. Turning off individual rules is described in the Configuration section of the docs.

FAQ

How do I check CLAUDE.md with Reporails?

Run `npx @reporails/cli check` in the project root. No install or account is needed; you get a quality score and a list of findings for each instruction file.

What is free and what is Pro only?

The anonymous and free modes show the score and every finding with the fix text for local checks. Pro adds writing fixes with `ails check --heal`, line-level detail and the order of fixes.

How do I run Reporails in CI?

Add the `reporails/cli/action@0.6.5` action with `strict: true` and `min-score: 7.0`. An API key from the account page on reporails.com is needed only for the Pro plan.

Which agents are supported?

Antigravity, Claude, Codex, Copilot and Cursor. For Claude Code and Codex, `ails install` also installs a plugin; for the others it prints the install steps.

Do I need an account to run it?

No. Running through `npx` or `uvx` needs no install or account. Signing in with `ails login` is free and gives the same limits as the anonymous mode.
