What it does

The server is the backend half of the commercial ABS Studio editor: the editor runs on the user's machine, while this server deploys on your own VPS via Docker Compose. It routes calls across seven providers (Anthropic, OpenRouter, Groq, Cerebras, Gemini, Cloudflare, Cohere) with a circuit breaker and can fall back to local Ollama or MLX models. It ships 157 MCP tools covering code review, test generation, hybrid RAG retrieval and a fullstack developer mode. It speaks MCP natively, so it can connect to any MCP client, not just the ABS Studio editor. It runs on a $5-a-month subscription with a seven-day trial and no card, checks its license with the vendor's server on startup and daily, and that check can be disabled with ABS_PHONE_HOME_DISABLED.

Who it is for. For developers willing to pay for a self-hosted orchestrator with routing across several LLM providers and a large set of ready-made tools.

Limitations

It requires a $5-a-month paid subscription after a seven-day trial and a license key; the license is BUSL-1.1, not perpetually free. It needs your own Linux VPS for Docker Compose. The default providers (Anthropic, OpenRouter, Gemini) are foreign and may be unreachable without a VPN. Stripe, Anthropic and SMTP secrets live in a sops vault that needs separate setup.

How to disable. Stop the stack with docker compose down on your VPS and cancel the subscription through the ABS Studio customer portal.
