What it does
The server exposes data.gouv.fr, France's national open data portal, to the agent through a set of MCP tools. The agent searches datasets and organizations, reads descriptions and metadata, lists the resources inside a dataset, reaches tabular data and data services, and pulls usage metrics. A public hosted HTTP endpoint is ready for any MCP client, and self-hosting is available through Docker or uv. For now the server exposes read-only tools, so no access key is required.
Who it is for. For analysts, researchers and developers who need French open data without hand-searching the portal.

The server works only with data.gouv.fr data and exposes read tools; it cannot edit data. The public endpoint serves the portal's production environment; the demo environment needs self-hosting with the DATAGOUV_API_ENV variable. Local runs need Docker or uv. On Windows with Claude Desktop the mcp-remote bridge may fail to connect because of the client's built-in Node, in which case the config sets isUsingBuiltInNodeForMcp to false.
How to disable. Remove the datagouv server from your client's MCP configuration. If you ran it locally, stop the container with docker compose down.

FAQ
Do I need an access key?
No. The server currently exposes only read tools, so no key is required.
Can I avoid the public endpoint?
Yes. The repository runs locally through Docker or uv, and then you point your client to your own URL.
