Broad access
Why this level
- Writes and updates project files and runs scripts in the open Godot editor
- Installs an addon with a native library and a local daemon that keep the agent connected to the editor
- The built-in chat sends requests to cloud providers with your keys
Install
- Works in
Manual install
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fennaraOfficial/fennara-godot-ai/main/install.sh | shmacOS and Linux. On Windows: irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fennaraOfficial/fennara-godot-ai/main/install.ps1 | iex. Then fennara install in the project folder.

What it does
Fennara Godot AI connects an AI assistant to an open Godot editor over MCP. The agent gets the engine's own feedback: scene trees, script diagnostics, screenshots, runtime errors and scene validation results. Setup adds the addons/fennara/ addon to the project, a small fennara CLI, a local MCP server and a daemon that passes requests from MCP and chat to the open editor. You can connect Codex, Claude Code, Cursor and eight more clients, from Claude Desktop to Kiro. Every tool is about Godot. The agent writes project files and gets diagnostics right away, edits a scene with a one-off script and inspects nodes, resources and classes. It also validates scenes, runs the game, reads logs and takes screenshots. For work without an external agent, the editor has a built-in chat panel.
Who it is for. For Godot game developers who work with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another MCP agent and want it to verify edits in the editor itself.
Good fit when
- The agent edits Godot scenes and scripts blind and cannot see parse errors
- You want the assistant to screenshot the running game and check the result against the task
- You need to read runtime errors and logs without pasting them into chat
- The project spans several repositories or worktrees, and each connection must work with its own project
- You want to work both from an external MCP agent and from a chat inside the editor
Not a fit when
- You need a Godot version below 4.5: it is not supported
- You need macOS on Intel or Linux on ARM: only Windows x86_64, Linux x86_64 and macOS arm64 are supported
- You need a tool that changes the project without an open editor: Fennara relies on a running Godot
Example request
Open the main menu scene in Godot, validate it for errors, run the game and send a screenshot after pressing PlayMCP

- stdio

Environment variables
FENNARA_PROJECT_PATH- Absolute path to the Godot project to bind a connection to one project.
FENNARA_DISABLE_TELEMETRY- Set to true to disable the daily anonymous event.
Limitations
It needs Godot 4.5 or newer and one of the platforms: Windows x86_64, Linux x86_64 or macOS arm64. The native macOS library is not Apple-notarized, so on that system install through the CLI: manually extracting the ZIP triggers a security warning. The built-in chat uses the platform web engine (WebView2, WKWebView or a managed CEF on Linux), and MCP tools work without it. Once a day an anonymous event is sent with an installation ID, versions and the system; disable it in settings or with the `FENNARA_DISABLE_TELEMETRY=true` and `DO_NOT_TRACK=1` variables.
How to disable. Close Godot, delete the project's addons/fennara/ folder and .fennara/ directory, then remove the Fennara entry from your agent's MCP configuration.
FAQ
How do I install Fennara for Godot?
Open the latest release, download fennara-addon-latest.zip and extract addons/fennara/ into the project. The other path is to install the CLI with install.sh (install.ps1 on Windows) and run `fennara install` in the project folder.
How do I connect Codex or Claude Code?
In the editor open Chat Settings, the MCP Apps section, find the app and press Set Up. From a terminal, `fennara mcp-setup --codex` connects Codex, and `fennara mcp-setup --help` lists flags for other clients. Fennara backs up the configuration before changing it.
How does external MCP differ from the built-in chat?
External apps run on their own models and subscriptions. The built-in chat is configured separately: your own cloud provider keys (BYOK) or local Ollama and LM Studio.
Does the addon end up in the exported game?
No. On export the plugin removes its autoload and skips `res://addons/fennara/` and `res://.fennara/`, then restores the project. In CI where the addon is excluded via `.gitignore`, run `fennara prepare-export --project path` before starting Godot.
What does telemetry send?
At most one anonymous event a day: a random installation UUID, Fennara and Godot versions, operating system and CPU architecture. It has no project data, paths, prompts, logs, screenshots or account information.
