What it does
The Fluenticons site holds over three thousand Microsoft Fluent UI icons and serves them to an agent through an HTTP API and a remote MCP server at `/mcp` with no authorization. An agent searches icons by meaning ("billing", "user security") and the server returns real `@fluentui/react-icons` component names and ready code. Search is deterministic and model-free: it uses names, Microsoft keywords and descriptions and a synonym list. A CLI (`npx -y https://fluenticons.co/cli.tgz search "user security"`) and a `fluent-icons` skill also exist. Plugins for Claude Code and Codex live in a separate repository, `coltongriffith/fluenticons-plugin`.
Who it is for. Frontend developers on React and Fluent UI whose agent invents icon names that do not exist.
Good fit when
- An agent picks an icon for a button and must name a real component.
- An interface needs a "payment" icon without browsing the catalog by hand.
- A ready import and code snippet are needed for a chosen icon.
- You want to search icons from a terminal command.
Not a fit when
- The project does not use Fluent UI; the server returns only these icons.
- Queries must not leave for a third-party server.
- Offline work is required; the server runs at fluenticons.co.
Example request
Find an icon for a "user security" screen in Fluent UI and give a ready React import.MCP

Limitations
The site is unaffiliated with Microsoft and shows its open-source icons. The server is external, with a limit of 120 requests per minute per IP (1,200 for `/mcp`), queries up to 200 characters and up to 25 icons per answer. Per the README, server usage events are counted in GA4 unless the `x-fluenticons-no-track` header is sent. The plugin installs from a separate repository, while this one holds the site and server code. Icon data is refreshed from the Microsoft repository by hand, so the newest icons may appear with a delay.
How to disable. Remove the plugin with `claude plugin uninstall fluenticons@fluenticons` or delete the `https://fluenticons.co/mcp` MCP entry from client settings.
FAQ
Is an API key needed?
No. The `/mcp` server works without authorization but with request limits.
Does search use an AI model?
No, search is deterministic: Microsoft names, keywords and descriptions plus a synonym list for words like "billing".
Where is the Codex plugin?
In the `coltongriffith/fluenticons-plugin` repository: `codex plugin marketplace add coltongriffith/fluenticons-plugin`, then install `fluenticons@fluenticons`.
Can I search without an agent?
Yes, through the CLI: `npx -y https://fluenticons.co/cli.tgz search "user security"`.
Which icon styles are available?
Regular, Filled, Color and Light, in sizes from 10 to 48 pixels. For each icon the site shows code for React, Blazor, Flutter, WinUI, Android and iOS.
